Ralph Hasenhuttl: Five facts about Southampton's new manager

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Two points separate Cardiff and Southampton ahead of their clash on Saturday afternoon.

Neil Warnock’s team have grinded out crucial wins in the last few weeks against Wolves and Brighton, but lost 3-1 in midweek at West Ham; they come into this match in 16th place on 11 points.

This will be Southampton’s first match with new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl in charge, and he has some work to do with a team currently languishing in the relegation zone on nine points and without a win in 11 league matches. Follow the live action below.

What time does it start?

Cardiff City vs Southampton kicks off at 3:00pm (GMT) on Saturday 8th December.

Where can I watch it?

The match will not be shown live on TV or online in the UK.

Independent Sport will keep you up to date with all the goals as they fly in via our live blog.

Highlights will be shown at 10:20pm on BBC One.

Player to watch

Junior Hoilett: The Canadian scored a scintillating winner in Cardiff’s win against Wolves last week, his first goal of the season. The ex-QPR and Blackburn winger has revitalised his career in south Wales under Neil Warnock, and the 28-year-old is likely to be up against Cedric Soares on the left-hand side in a match both teams need to win.

GOAL! Manchester United 3-0 Fulham (Romelu Lukaku, 42 minutes)

It's three.

A much-needed goal for Romelu Lukaku, tapping in after being well found by Juan Mata.

Arsenal 0-0 Huddersfield, 42 minutes

Arsenal have the ball in the back of the net, but they are not happy.

Alexandre Lacazette is flagged for offside after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wins a flick on for a goal kick.

Mathias Zanka underhit his back pass to allow Lacazette the opportunity to round Jonas Lossl and score, but Lacazette's chasing of the ball from an offside position forced the error and thus the goal is chalked off.
