Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Burnley continued their good recent run with a comfortable win at Brighton.

Chris Wood scored twice before Ashley Barnes wrapped up all three points from the spot as the Clarets moved out of the bottom three.

Here's how it played out:

A heroic performance so far from the Burnley keeper in tough conditions.

71 min: Brighton 0-2 Burnley

It's far too slow in all honesty from the hosts at the moment as the rain continues to pour at the Amex.

No chances for the hosts since Chris Wood's second and this looks like coming to a tepid end.

72 MIN: PENALTY TO BURNLEY

GOAL! Brighton 0-3 Burnley (Barnes pen 74')

Maybe not tepid after all.

There's controvery in abundance here. A minute after the hosts believe they should have a penalty for a Hendrick handball, the visitors do get one after Ryan brings Barnes down.

The striker makes no mistake in taking the penalty he wins and that will see Dyche's men jump out of the relegation zone.

GOAL! Brighton 1-3 Burnley (Duffy 76')

That's a fifth for the season for the centre-back, who nods home a free-kick to reinvigorate the home crowd.

80 min: Brighton 1-3 Burnley

Well, those were some thrilling five minutes there. And there may still be some more to come, as Ben Mee narrowly heads wide from a corner as the visitors look to make absolutely sure of victory.

Are we going to see a repeat of events at Villa Park yesterday?

And he could have had a third!

84 min: Brighton 1-3 Burnley

One of Knockaert's best balls in today is well defended by Tarkowski, in what otherwise would have been a certain chance for the hosts.

Tarkowski and Mee have been immense at the back today and have largely dealt with the Brighton threat.

Looks like this will only be a consolation as we head into the last five minutes.

89 min: Brighton 1-3 Burnley

Not the ending Sean Dyche would have wanted. Ben Mee heads a cross clear but falls awkwardly and looks to have turned his ankle.

Anxious moments for the visitors.
