The 2023/24 Premier League season is under way and you can follow every game and every goal right here with The Independent.

This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.

Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Burn was badly exposed by Elanga in the reverse fixture and similarly suffered against Luton's Chiedozie Ogbene last week. However, the way Newcastle have set up, with Trippier joining Miley in the middle to create a back three, requires Burn to start ahead of Livramento.

Huge stop from Dubravka! Burn is caught out by the pace of Elanga, who races away down the right, gaining an angle from which to go for goal. But Dubravka is out bravely and blocks.

It is one-way traffic right now, but Forest will be keen to reflect on how they turned the reverse fixture on its head. Newcastle led at St James' Park but lost 3-1.

Trippier now has 10 assists in the Premier League this season, tied for the most in the division. The last Newcastle player to reach double-figures in a top-flight campaign was Laurent Robert in 2001-02.

Newcastle are straight back on the attack, and there are muted appeals for a penalty. Gordon fires a pass towards Wilson, whose loose first touch bounces between Forest players. Longstaff gets there and goes down under a challenge, but referee Anthony Taylor is unimpressed.

Sels comes for a Trippier corner and just about gets there, palming the ball behind for another one. That was one area in which Sels really struggled while at Newcastle, albeit way back in the 2016-17 season.

Save by Sels! Longstaff carries the ball from the halfway line towards the Forest box. When he still is not greeted with a challenge, the Newcastle man drives in a low shot that bounces in front of Sels and forces the goalkeeper into a smart stop.

Newcastle are dominating the possession, but Forest are such a threat on the break. The pattern of play will suit the home side just fine so far.
