Cristiano Ronaldo’s 13th goal of the season helped Manchester United close in on the Premier League’s top four with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Norwich.

The Portugal international scored a penalty with quarter of an hour left in Norfolk to give Ralf Rangnick a second victory since his arrival and extend the Red Devils’ unbeaten run to six games following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.

It was harsh on Norwich who had their chances and pushed the visitors hard but remain bottom while United are level on points with fourth-placed West Ham.

Follow all the latest reaction from the Premier League action of the day below:

18 mins: A cross comes in from the left side and Ronaldo attempts to volley it at goal but completely miscues the effort. He regains possession though and attempts to dribble around Hanely but only manages to knock over the Norwich centre-back who lands awkwardly on his shoulder.

15 mins: Jadon Sancho carries the ball down the right channel and gives it to Rashford just inside the box. He’s forced out of the area before getting bungled over by Grant Hanley and winning a fre kick for United.

Close! This is prime Ronaldo range but he’s got Fernandes and Telles stood over the ball too. Fernandes dummies a shot and Telles strikes the free kick. It hits Hanley in the wall and deflects towards goal before striking the crossbar and going out for a corner!

Norwich v Man Utd: Here come the teams

Harry Maguire leads out Manchester United at Carrow Road. The Red Devils can join West Ham on 27 points if they win today. Norwich meanwhile would move off bottom spot if they pick up all three points. It’s a big game for both clubs.

Dean Smith could become the first manager in 113 years to beat Manchester United with two different clubs in the same top-flight season. Andy Aitken did so with Middlesbrough and Leicester in 1908-09.
