That victory sees Newcastle leapfrog Palace to move up to 11th in the table, and in doing so win six consecutive home matches for the first time since the era of the great Sir Bobby Robson. Palace, meanwhile, drop to 14th, but their second-half performance showed just how threatening they can be in pursuit of further points before the season ends.

Guimaraes was without doubt Newcastle's stand-out player in this match, setting up the winner and making two key passes. He completed more touches and passes, and more accurately, than all of his teammates, and won the ball nine teams, including via three interceptions and being fouled four times. What a performance from the Brazilian, who has set St. James' Park alight since his January arrival.

OVER!!! Forward come Palace for one last chance, and a headed clearance comes to McArthur. He tees up Zaha, who cuts inside and curls a shot that just misses the top corner by milimetres!

Guimaraes taps the ball between Mitchell and McArthur and goes down after being sandwiched between the two, with the Magpies in no hurry to take the free-kick quickly.

A long clearance from Newcastle almost puts Willock in the clear with Palace players camped in the Magpies' half, but Guaita sprints way out fo his box to hoof it out ahead of Willock.

A Newcastle ball-boy takes an age to give Krafth the ball to take a throw, but at this late stage the Magpies' right-back doesn't mind, and nor do the supporters!
