Manchester United kept their hopes of qualifying for Europe alive with an impressive performance against a determined Newcastle team at Old Trafford.
The visitors started the match the more aggressive side but it was the hosts who opened the scoring. Martin Dubravka was twice called into action to deny the Red Devils but their third attempt saw Kobbie Mainoo slipped into the box for a well-placed finish.
The response came after the half-time break. Newcastle started quickly again with Anthony Gordon showing desire to meet a cross and net the equaliser. The game was in the balance before Amad Diallo stepped up. A poor clearance from a corner brought the ball to him which he smashed into the back off the night.
At 2-1, both managers made changes but Erik ten Hag’s substitutes made the difference. Lisandro Martinez won the ball, Marcus Rashford drove it forward, Rasmus Hojlund finished it off. However United were in for a few nervous minutes after Lewis Hall scored a late consolation but they managed to hold on for the win.

Brilliant feet from Anthony Gordon sees his dribble around Casemiro before squaring a pass across the face of goal. Miguel Almiron arrives at the back post and looks for the tap in but his sliding effort comes too late for him to touch the ball home.

69 mins: Save! A wonderfully threaded pass sees Sean Longstaff slipped into the penalty area but his shot gets charged down but Andre Onana who makes a sharp stop to keep his team in front.
Next, a cross comes in from the right. Joelinton climbs above the nearest defender and wins the header. He gets it on target but Onana is there again to tip the ball over the crossbar!

66 mins: Casemiro chips the ball up the pitch and finds Bruno Fernandes who makes a weaving run in behind the lines. He brings the ball down and wins Man Utd a corner.
When the ball comes into the box, Amad decides to have another go but this effort gets blocked.
