From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After 11 years of misery, in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s words, came 90 minutes of melancholy. New era, same Manchester United? A first defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford since 2003 made for an inauspicious start after the new co-owner’s investment was confirmed. Turning United around was, Ratcliffe had rationalised, more than just a case of flicking a light switch. Repeat this result – and wretched performance – against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup and Manchester City, however, and the danger is that the lights go out on their season.

Erik ten Hag makes two changes from their win over Luton last Sunday, and they're both enforced. Luke Shaw went off with a muscle problem at half-time in that game, while Rasmus Hojlund, who scored seven goals in his last six games, also misses out through injury. Lindelof and Forson come in, with the latter making his first senior start for the club.

Fulham, on the other hand, have won just twice since the turn of the year (D3 L4), with both of those victories coming at Craven Cottage, and only one of them was in the Premier League when they beat Bournemouth 3-1. This run has seen them drop to 12th in the table, but Marco Silva will be keen to try and get just their second win away from home in the league this season, having gone winless in 11 on the road since beating Everton in their opening match (D4 L7).
