Follow live coverage as Manchester City face Newcastle United in the Premier League today.

Manchester City are reigning champions after beating Liverpool to the finish line in a neck-and-neck 2021/22 title race where a comeback win on the final day of the season against Aston Villa secured a fourth title in five years for Pep Guardiola's side.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds were on course for a quadruple last season but were forced to settle for just an FA Cup and Carabao Cup win and will return trying to win the title again just as they did in 2020.

It was a dramatic season for Chelsea a year ago with Roman Abramovich now replaced by Todd Boehly as owner in west London. He will want an instant return on his hefty investment at Stamford Bridge while Tottenham, back in the Champions League, will want to kick on once more too.

It's not all about the action at the top though with Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest promoted to the top tier for 2021/22 and hoping to hold their own against the best English football has to offer and avoid the drop.

We will bring you all the action and updates from today's game in the live blog below:

Visiting boss Eddie Howe goes with three alterations from the EFL Cup final defeat, as Pope returns in goal after his suspension that meant Loris Karius made his first appearance for the Magpies at Wembley. Fabian Schar is a notable absence with concussion as Lascelles comes in for him, while Gordon makes his first start for Saint-Maximin on the wing after signing from Everton in January.

Home manager Pep Guardiola makes six changes from the 3-0 FA Cup victory over Bristol City in midweek, as Ederson returns in goal while Haaland is preferred to Alvarez up top. Foden's impressive return to form sees him retain his place in the starting XI, while Grealish and Gundogan come in for Mahrez and Silva. Phillips got some valuable minutes under his belt against Bristol City but drops to the bench for Rodri. Walker in for Lewis is the other change.

The visitors meanwhile are looking to bounce back from their EFL Cup final disappointment last weekend, when a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium meant they missed the opportunity to end a 54-year major trophy drought. Their form has dropped off in recent matches after an incredible start, with a four-match winless run in all competitions seeing them lose out on silverware and drop out of the Champions League places. Though this game is a daunting task away at the champions, the Magpies will be encouraged by their form on the road, having not lost in their last eight league games away from St James' Park.
