Man United vs Galatasaray LIVE: Champions League result, final score and reaction as Casemiro sent-off in defeat
Erik ten Hag’s team will be aiming to bounce back after losing at Old Trafford again at the weekend
The Uefa Champions League continues with matchday two starting on Tuesday night, as Manchester United get their first chance to play in front of their fans in the competition this season. They’ll be hosting Turkish side Galatasaray and looking to kick-start their European campaign having been beaten 4-3 by Bayern Munich in their opener.
At the same time, Galatasaray fought back from two goals down against Copenhagen to pick up a point, leaving Man United bottom in Group A after the first round of fixtures.
While the Red Devils therefore are in sore need of a victory, the form guide is strongly against them doing so - they’ve lost four of the last six including a home weekend defeat to Crystal Palace. Follow the latest news and updates from Man United vs Galatasary below and get the latest odds and tips here.
62' - Man Utd 1-1 Galatasaray
Torreira hasn’t recovered from whatever the issue was a moment ago and he’ll be heading off now. A cross from the right reaches Rashford and he nods on target, but it’s soft and easily saved. Good approach play by Eriksen, who replaced Hannibal at the break, then Mount finds himself with space to shoot...but it’s pulled wide of the near post.
GAL subs: Sergio Oliveira for Lucas Torreira and Baris Yilmaz on for Tete.
59’ - Man Utd 1-1 Galatasaray
Hojlund thinks he’s put United 2-1 up but the offside flag is up early. Mount fizzes a pass around the corner and Hojlund dummies past Boey, then lashes into the roof of the net - but he’s just a pace beyond the defender when taking the pass and it’s the right call.
Still 1-1.
58’ - Man Utd 1-1 Galatasaray
Torreira is down and injured, needing attention in the Galatasaray penalty box. Not sure what happened with him but he’s got the physio on while United fans get frustrated and start to whistle from the stands.
Interesting latest score in Denmark: Lukas Lerager has put Copenhagen 1-0 up against Bayern.
54’ - Man Utd 1-1 Galatasaray
What a chance! Zaha tries to dribble past Dalot and goes down in the box but it’s never a foul. United streak away down the right side, Rashford is behind the last two defenders and bearing down on the goalkeeper...but instead of opting to shoot he slows down and tries to square for Fernandes, but it’s a really poor ball and is cleared behind by Abdulkarim who is sprinting back.
A real waste from Rashford.
From the corner Muslera is forced to tip over, then the second is cleared after the ball hits the referee.
48’ - Man Utd 1-1 Galatasaray
Zaha attacks from the left and frees Kerem into the centre - but instead of taking a touch and shooting, he reverses the pass to Zaha who hasn’t continued his run and United can clear their lines.
Positive start to the second half from the visitors, then Fernandes attacks down the United right, cuts in and shoots left-footed - well off-target. Somewhat of a waste.
46' - Man Utd 1-1 Galatasaray
Back underway for the second half.
HT - Man Utd 1-1 Galatasaray
Seven shots to four in favour of United and 53% possession in their favour, but it’s hard to say they’ve been massively on top or should be in front. They’ve created just one chance since they scored in truth, Mount’s shot blocked by his own teammate, and Galatasaray have carried a threat of their own sporadically on the counter.
An intriguing second half awaits.
HT - Man Utd 1-1 Galatasaray
All square as the whistle goes, Hojlund heading United ahead but Zaha equalising just a few minutes later.
In the group’s other fixture it’s Copenhagen 0-0 Bayern, still playing the first half as it stands.
Arsenal have reached the interval in France and are 1-1 with Lens.
44’ - Man Utd 1-1 Galatasaray
Last minute. Rashford attacks Boey and crosses low, it’s half-cleared to Mount and he thinks he’s scored - but it’s a brilliant block... by Hannibal. Not quite the penalty box impact he’d be hoping for, denying his own teammate.
Three minutes added on.
41’ - Man Utd 1-1 Galatasaray
Hannibal goes in rather late for a 50-50 challenge and is lucky he doesn’t get booked too, Angelino displeased at the foul. Into the final few minutes of the first half at Old Trafford.
Casemiro fires a pass towards Rashford but it skids off the surface and runs to Muslera - lots of rain in this first 45 minutes and it’s impacting those attempted through balls.
