Manchester City secured their first Community Shield win since 2019, with Manuel Akanji scoring the decisive eighth penalty against local rivals Manchester United.
The game started off in a slow fashion, with Alejandro Garnacho breaking the deadlock in the 82nd minute with a stunning strike, before Bernardo Silva equalised with just a minute of normal time to take the game to penalties at Wembley.
There were just two misses from Bernardo Silva and Jadon Sancho in the first five penalties, which included a goal from Ederson, before it went to sudden death.
Jonny Evans did not look confident stepping up for his side’s eighth and ended up firing over the bar, while Akanji rolled his into the back of the net to give Pep Guardiola’s side the victory.

Sancho steps up, and he doesn’t look to confident. He fires a poor penalty to Ederson’s left, and the Brazilian gets an arm to it.

Haaland is the next taker. He confidently sends Onana the wrong way. Not fazed at all.

Garncacho is another with a leisurely run-up, but he sends Ederson the wrong way and clips it wide into the side-netting. Great pen.

De Bruyne is next for City. A small stutter in the run-up and he sends Onana the wrong way to get City on the board.

Dalot steps up for United and fires a low effort that Ederson reaches, but he can’t save it due to the power on it!

He takes a leisurely run-up and hits it low, and Onana dives the right way and saves!

So we head to penalties. They’ll be taken at the United end. Fernandes is up first!
The Portuguese steps up with his usual run-up and slips it past Ederson into the opposite corner.
