Klopp has 'no idea' if Liverpool will benefit from Man City's Europe travels

Liverpool kept their bid for an unprecedented quadruple on track as their 3-2 FA Cup semi-final win also ended Manchester City’s hopes of a treble.

England’s top two teams served up another epic encounter but, having drawn 2-2 in the Premier League just six days ago, Jurgen Klopp’s side deservedly came out on top at Wembley.

It was not without a little help from City’s number two Zack Steffen, their designated cup goalkeeper, whose huge first-half error with the score at 1-0 contributed to the game getting away from them. Man of the match Sadio Mane scored twice to add to Ibrahima Konate’s opener as they raced into a 3-0 interval lead.

Goals from Jack Grealish, early in the second half, and Bernardo Silva, in added time, ensured Liverpool were never as comfortable as they wanted to be but, despite some concerted late City pressure, the seven-time winners booked a 15th final appearance.

The minute’s silence before the semi-final began to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster was stopped early after being disrupted by noise from the Manchester City fans.

Follow reaction from Manchester City vs Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-finals, below.

Man City 1 - 3 Liverpool

63 mins: Liverpool seem to be trying to take the sting out of the game by passing the ball around the back line. This draws City into the press and the ball gets played over the top to Mo Salah. He brings it down beautifully and slides a pass up to Sadio Mane ahwo carries the ball over to the right of the box. Salah makes an underlapping run into the middle of the ball before Mane picks him out. He’s looking to shoot but Ake slides in and pokes the ball out for a corner.

Man City 1 - 3 Liverpool

60 mins: An hour played and Liverpool still have the advantage at Wembley but Manchester City are fighting hard. They’re making it difficult for Liverpool to put anything together in an attacking sense. Mane and Fernandinho come together again but it’s the Liverpool man who gets booked this time.

Man City 1 - 3 Liverpool

53 mins: Nathan Ake gives away a free kick just outside his own penalty area and Alexander-Arnold flicks the set piece into the box towards Virgil van Dijk only for Ake to get there first and prod it behind for a corner.

Robertson’s corner curls into the middle by flies over Van Dijk’s head and skips away to safety.

Man City 1 - 3 Liverpool

50 mins: The game is very much alive again now. City look a lot sharper than they did in the first half and are pressing Liverpool better, forcing the errors from the Reds. Thiago puts the ball out for a throw in under pressure Bernardo and it’s Liverpool’s turn to look a little uncomfortable now.

GOAL! Man City 1 - 3 Liverpool (Grealish, 47’)⚽️

47 mins: Yes they can! What a start to the second half for Man City. Whatever Pep Guardiola said at the break seems to have worked as Gabriel Jesus keeps himself onside and makes a darting run in behind the Liverpool line as the ball is played into the box for him. He collects it, shimmies inside of Fabinho and slots it over to Jack Grealish who smokes it home to give City a glimmer of hope.

Second half: Man City 0 - 3 Liverpool

Kick off: No changes from either team as Manchester City get the second half underway. Can they get the next goal and get themselves back into this game?

Man City 0 - 2 Liverpool

Sadio Mané has scored nine goals against Man City, only scoring more against Crystal Palace (13) since he arrived in England in 2014.

In fact, since the start of the 2014-15 season, no player has scored more goals against Manchester City in all competitions.
