Your support makes all the difference.There was spirit, there was fight, there were a lot of screwed-up balls of paper, but ultimately nothing that Elland Road threw at Manchester City could prevent the defending champions from securing a comfortable 4-0 victory which returned them to the top of the Premier League table and left Leeds languishing at the other end, now only one place above the relegation zone.
Leeds were bold and boisterous but always second-best. Jesse Marsch’s side were a test for City initially but let themselves down with slack defending on set-pieces for the first two goals, converted by Rodri and Nathan Aké. Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho then helped close the gap to Liverpool’s goal difference. City remain one point clear and are now only one goal short of their rivals on the tiebreaker.
There were periods where Pep Guardiola’s side were far from their sparkling best. The first half was combative, a little ugly and threatened to get out of hand at times as referee Paul Tierney struggled to take control. Throughout the 90 minutes, Jack Grealish was playfully pelted with balls of paper left over from a pre-match ‘Yorkshire’ tifo. It was more than a little disruptive and this was more of a battle for City than the final scoreline suggests.

Leeds tear forward and Raphinha cuts in, beating Dias all ends up. He takes the shot on from inside the area but Laporte springs across to get a foot in the way and deflect the effort over the top.

70 mins: Oh dear. Leeds break in numbers and look to be creating something dangerous until Raphinha’s inswinging cross from the far side is so overhit that it ends up in the crowd.

68 mins: YELLOWS! Leeds manager Jesse Marsch has been booked by referee Paul Tierney. I think it was one of his coaching staff that was actually responsible for the poor behaviour on the touchline, but the rules dictate that the manager receives the caution.
Moments later Joao Cancelo gets a yellow of his own for a late tackle on Harrison.

66 mins: Manchester City are moving back above Liverpool in the Premier League title race with four games remaining. They will regain their one-point lead over Jurgen Klopp’s men.
The fight has gone out of Leeds in the last 10 minutes. That Ake goal has killed them off.

64 mins: Cancelo finds Sterling in space on the right. He sends an early cross into Foden but Koch just gets there ahead of him to head it behind for another Manchester City corner.
This one is dealt with by Dan James and as Leeds try to break the visitors’ sweeper Ederson is there to clear away the danger 40 yards from his own goal.
