Guardiola admits to doubts but says he still has the support of chairman

Bernardo Silva scored an early goal but struggling Manchester City could only muster a single point in a 1-1 Premier League draw with Everton to kick off a full slate of Boxing Day games.

City’s slump has seen them win just once in their last 13 matches across all competitions and they provisionally sit sixth in the table with 28 points, 11 below leaders Liverpool who have two games in hand. Everton are 15th, five points above the drop zone.

In the 14th minute, Jeremy Doku played a ball in behind the Toffees’ defence and Silva’s deflected shot found the far corner but Iliman Ndiaye drew Everton level when he took a touch to settle the ball, then unleashed a half-volley into the top right corner.

City looked set to retake the lead when Erling Haaland stepped up to the penalty spot in the second half after Seamus Coleman’s tackle on Savinho but goalkeeper Jordan Pickford dived correctly to safe the shot. Haaland headed home the rebound but it was chalked off for offside.

Only a few minutes left for City to salvage this. Silva lays back to De Bruyne but it’s an easy header clear for Tarkowski. De Bruyne then surges into the box, to the byline but his cutback is scrambled clear.

Branthwiate also yellow carded for an ugly lunge on Savinho.

Ake subbed off, with young James Simpson-Pusey coming on and Kovacic also comes off as Ilkay Gundogan enters the fray.

That could have gone anywhere! Gueye thumps a shot at goal, it takes a huge deflection off Akanji and leaves Ortega flat-footed but spins narrowly wide.

Ortega then claims Branthwaite’s header from the corner.

Everton change as Ndiaye taken off and Jesper Lindstrom comes on. Let’s be clear, the Toffees would be more than happy to hold on for a point

Yellow card for Mangala as he’s a fraction late with his lunge on De Bruyne. Foden’s free-kick is over Haaland’s head and Everton try to counter.

Broja is kind of isolated, so slows down and waits for support. Eventually Harrison’s cross is blocked out for a throw-in

More thoughts from Richard Jolly at the Etihad

Kevin de Bruyne is coming off the bench as City need a goal. He may not be fully fit, and that certainly seemed to explain why he was not used at Aston Villa on Saturday, but it was notable nonetheless. Guardiola is summoning him now in the search for a rescuer. City haven't had much creativity in his absence; certainly not from central areas. So he has come on for Jeremy Doku, who had a part in the opener but has otherwise flattered to deceive.

Branthwaite goes down and looks in a bit of pain. He receives some treatment and will try to continue for the time being.

Here he is. De Bruyne comes on for Jeremy Doku. Boy, could City do with some KdB magic.

Kevin de Bruyne still sitting on the Man City bench with his coat on by the way... Fewer than 20 minutes remain for Guardiola’s men to find a winner.

And as I say that, the Belgian starts stripping off to enter the fray.

That was a chance for Everton. Harrison gets to the byline, hangs it up to the back post and Doucoure catches it on the volley but it’s blocked behind for the corner.

The corner is poor, floats over the area and harmlessly away.

Our first change with 20 minutes left as Armando Broja comes on for Calvert-Lewin
