Follow live coverage as Liverpool face Manchester United today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

And breathe! After a thrilling ending at Anfield, the full-time whistle blows with the scoreline 2-2 between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield. The game went to the interval goalless despite Liverpool shading the opening 45 minutes, but it was United who would open the scoring just seven minutes into the second half, Martinez the unlikely scorer as he thundered in off the crossbar. It took just seven minutes for Liverpool to draw themselves level, however, Gakpo cutting onto his right foot before placing into the top right corner. Liverpool then looked like they were on course for victory as, after De Ligt handled from Mac Allister's header, Salah stepped up to haunt United again by slotting home his penalty. United weren't done, though, with Amad coming up with another huge goal as he turned home from Garnacho's cross to secure his side a point. It could have been even better for United, but Maguire somehow fired over with the goal gaping in the dying seconds as Liverpool escape with a point. The hosts may still feel it's two points dropped though having registered 2.87 xG to United's 1.03, and they miss the chance to extend their lead over second-placed Arsenal to eight points, though they do still have a game in hand over the Gunners. United move up to 13th, and they will look to continue the momentum from this positive result when they travel to Arsenal in the FA Cup third round next Sunday. Meanwhile, it's EFL Cup action up next for Liverpool, visiting Tottenham in the first leg of their semi-final on Wednesday as they look to bounce back from this disappointment. That's all we have for you from Anfield, so thanks for your company and goodbye!

The United centre-back has all the time in the world but decides not to take a touch, and he can only scoop over the crossbar with the goal gaping!
