Kevin De Bruyne cancelled out Mohamed Salah’s stunning strike as Manchester City twice hit back to draw 2-2 at Anfield in a tie befitting two of the Premier League’s heavyweights.
A game which Pep Guardiola’s side had bossed in the first half exploded into life after the break with the stand-out moment being Salah’s weaving effort, of which Lionel Messi would have been proud.
The Egypt international twisted and turned past Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva, Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias before firing an angled right-footed shot inside the far post for his ninth goal in as many matches.
But Manchester City were left fuming that moments earlier James Milner, who was involved in the build-up, had not been shown a second yellow card for what appeared to be a blatant foul on Bernardo Silva.
Only Burnley have kept Salah out this season but as good as his goal was it was not enough to secure the three points which would have taken his team back to the top of the table as Kevin De Bruyne struck with nine minutes remaining as an absorbing encounter fittingly finished honours even.

23 mins: Chance! Cancelo picks up the ball in space on the left and is able to drift inside before finding De Bruyne’s run into the box. His shot flashes across the face and actually goes out for a throw, but that’s further encouragement for City who are on top here.

It’s been a flat 10 or so minutes from Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp does not look happy on the touchline.

20 mins: Huge save from Alisson! It’s wonderful from Bernardo Silva - who beats three or four players in a magical run before slipping in Foden on the left. Alisson closed the angle and made the save with his body as Foden tried to lift the ball into the far corner.

18 mins: Alisson passes directly to Bernardo, 40 yards from goal, before Jesus’ pull-back is cut out by Matip.
City play the corner short but Liverpool get out well and catch Foden offside as they looked to play the ball into the box.
But that’s a warning for Alisson following his mistakes in this fixture last season, which led to two City goals in the 4-1 win.

Alisson punches clear under pressure before City snuff out a Liverpool counter attack and regain possession.
