Liverpool doubled their goal tally for the week as they broke down a resilient Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday, securing a 3-0 victory to follow their 3-2 thriller against AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Patrick Vieira’s first few games as Palace coach have brought mixed results but promising performances, and there were certainly positives for the new Eagles coach at Anfield despite the scoreline against Jurgen Klopp’s men. Palace were stubborn throughout, with Liverpool’s late flourish reflecting harshly on the visitors.
It was Sadio Mane who finally beat an impressive Vicente Guaita in the Palace goal, tapping in at the back post after the goalkeeper had done well to palm away a Mohamed Salah header as half-time approached. Salah himself got on the goalsheet later in the afternoon, also appearing at the back post to stab home a finish, before substitute Naby Keita rounded out the result in the final moments with a superb volley in the aftermath of a Liverpool corner.

12 mins: Liverpool attack down the left again with Jota and Mane having switched positions. He combines with Tsimikas before driving at the box. Jota gets into full flow but Cheikhou Kouyate comes across and wins the ball with a well-timed tackle.

Tsimikas gives the ball to Sadio Mane who powers his way round three Palace defenders before slipping the ball into the box. Tsimikas makes an underlapping run to collect the ball and then squares it into Diogo Jota. He shifts the ball to the left and the blasts one at goal only to send it wide of the far post.

Conor Gallagher swings in the set piece but doesn’t beat the first defender and Liverpool clear the danger.

3 mins: Chance! Conor Gallagher belts a free kick into the box and Christian Benteke wins the first header. Diogo Jota fails to clear the ball properly and it comes out to Gallagher. He flicks it back into the box where James Milner and Alisson Becker struggle to communicate. Neither player goes for the ball and it bounces over the goalkeeper. Alisson is left scrambling but he manages to flap the ball onto the post on out behind for a corner.
