Follow live coverage as Liverpool face Brentford in the Premier League today.
Manchester City are reigning champions after beating Liverpool to the finish line in a neck-and-neck 2021/22 title race where a comeback win on the final day of the season against Aston Villa secured a fourth title in five years for Pep Guardiola's side.
Jurgen Klopp's Reds were on course for a quadruple last season but were forced to settle for just an FA Cup and Carabao Cup win and will return trying to win the title again just as they did in 2020.
It was a dramatic season for Chelsea a year ago with Roman Abramovich now replaced by Todd Boehly as owner in west London. He will want an instant return on his hefty investment at Stamford Bridge while Tottenham, back in the Champions League, will want to kick on once more too.
It's not all about the action at the top though with Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest promoted to the top tier for 2021/22 and hoping to hold their own against the best English football has to offer and avoid the drop.
We will bring you all the action and updates from today's game in the live blog below:

Liverpool vs Brentford
Brentford will be looking to complete a first league double over Liverpool after beating the Reds 3-1 in the reverse fixture. Their hopes of qualifying for European football took a hit when they went without a win in six games, but back-to-back victories against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest has reignited some belief. They are five points behind sixth-placed Brighton and Hove Albion but have played two games more than the Seagulls. Additionally, they have a tough final few fixtures and still have Tottenham, West Ham and Manchester City to play after today’s match versus Liverpool. Only four of Brentford’s 12 wins have come away from home this season, with Thomas Frank’s men collecting 19 points on the road.
Liverpool vs Brentford
Liverpool have been in superb form in the Premier League and have given themselves an outside chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season. The Reds were in eighth position after they salvaged a 2-2 draw with Arsenal, but five successive wins have seen them move up to fifth. Scoring 16 goals in that time, Jurgen Klopp’s men are just four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United but have played one game more than their historic rivals. Liverpool have lost just once at Anfield this term, winning 12 and drawing four of their 17 fixtures.
