Liverpool take on Bournemouth hoping to build some momentum in the Premier League following a shock defeat to Nottingham Forest in their previous league game.

During the week Arne Slot took charge of this first European match as Liverpool manager and defeated AC Milan at the San Siro in a confidence-building comeback victory. The Reds will now be hoping to take that form into today’s encounter with the Cherries and move themselves up the Premier League table.

For their part, Bournemouth have been playing well. Five points from their opening four games puts them 11th in the table, just behind Manchester United. Although they lost 1-0 to Chelsea in their last match they performed strongly and Andoni Iraola will be hoping for something similar at Anfield.

A clinical 11-minute spell in the first half is enough for Liverpool to take all three points, with Slot’s side beating Bournemouth at Anfield 3-0. Semenyo’s disallowed goal after just four minutes would be as good as it would get for Iraiola’s team, who failed to continue and make the most of their early momentum. Both Diaz and Salah had early chances to break the deadlock but it was the Colombia international who displayed his clinical finishing and found the back of the net twice in 120 seconds to turn the game on its head. Nunez would add a third 11 minutes later - effectively ending the match as a contest. Semenyo looked bright on solo attempts at goal but he struggled to link up with Evanilson - who only had 12 total touches of the ball. Liverpool took their foot off the gas considerably in the second period, but still managed to create an xG of 0.85 following the restart (with a total output of 1.86), while Iraiola’s side largely struggled to create chances in front of goal, hitting a mark of 1.01 for the entire game. The win puts Liverpool temporarily top of the table ahead of a match with West Ham in the League Cup on Wednesday and a meeting with Wolves in the league next Saturday, while Bournemouth go to 13th and host Southampton on September 30. That concludes our commentary of the Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Bournemouth - we hope you’ve enjoyed it!
