From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manchester United lost Marcus Rashford to injury as they slipped to a demoralising 2-0 defeat at West Ham.

The England striker limped off early in the second half after Andriy Yarmolenko had given the hosts the lead, before Aaron Cresswell finished United off with a stunning free-kick. With Anthony Martial already missing through injury and youngster Mason Greenwood ill, United finished the match without a recognised striker and Jesse Lingard playing in attack.

Rashford's early departure will raise more questions about United's summer transfer business, when they failed to bring in a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

West Ham 1 - 0 Man Utd - Yarmolenko

44 mins: GOAL! The first real quality in the match and West Ham strike first.

Mark Noble is allowed time on the ball on the edge of Man Utd's box, he turns and passes to Felipe Anderson who taps a pass over to Yarmolenko. He brings the ball down, puts it on his left foot and sends it into the bottom corner!

West Ham 1 - 0 Man Utd

45+1 mins: One added minute ends the first half. It's been a frustrating half for both teams with one moment of quality separating the sides at the break.

Manchester United need to wake up for the second half or else they're staring down another defeat away from home.

West Ham 1 - 0 Man Utd

A lack of pressure off the ball from Man Utd led to the goal for West Ham. Man Utd had a lot of players back to defend the ball and no one went to press the West Ham attackers.

The visitors have been lethargic and it seems unmotivated to score. They've only had two shots compared to West Ham's four.

Lots of work to do for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

48 mins: Rashford and James almost make it into the West Ham box on the counter attack, Rashford brings the ball forward and gets it to James who loses the ball to Fredericks. Fredericks then sends it to Rice who is brought down by Mata. Mata gets booked.

Chance! Big chance for Man Utd. Pereira gets free on the right side and puts a great ball across the six yard box. It comes out to the far post and Mata gets to the open but puts it wide!

West Ham 1 - 0 Man Utd

57 mins: Felipe Anderson wins another corner for West Ham as Wan Bissaka makes a last ditch challenge. West Ham play a short corner and pass it into the box for a the oncoming Cressell who overshoots the ball with his run.

West Ham 1 - 0 Man Utd

60 mins: West Ham put the ball out of play as Marcus Rashford hits the deck clutching his thigh. He hasn't looked right all game and he limps off the pitch after speaking to the physio.

Jesse Lingard gets stripped on the sidelines.

West Ham 1 - 0 Man Utd

63 mins: Lingard does come on for Rashford. Man Utd are really lacking in attackers right now.

Yarmolenko lays off the ball in the Man Utd box to Felipe Anderson and he drills a shot at David De Gea who saves it to deny West Ham a surely unreachable lead.
