Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and more are open for business with the summer transfer window now officially open.

Arsenal are set to push on with their first signing of the summer with a bid for Bournemouth's Ryan Fraser set to be lodged following this week's Europa League final. A new centre-back is high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's priority list at United with Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester's Harry Maguire both options. Crystal Palace's Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another on the Norwegian's radar. It won't just be incomings at Old Trafford, however, with Paul Pogba a high-profile target for Real Madrid and Alexis Sanchez on his way out with Inter Milan and Juventus fighting it out for his signature - if he drops his wage demands. And Liverpool could be active too as they look to go one better after failing to win the Premier League title by just a single point.

James Rodriguez has offers from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Mundo Deportivo claim the Real Madrid star, who has just ended a two-year loan spell with Bayern, will wait on the decision of the Bundesliga champions, who have an option on the player.

The 27-year-old has two years remaining on his contract, meaning Real could receive a big fee to help revamp their squad under Zinedine Zidane.

That's according Spanish TV programme Jugones, who insist the Real captain could be set to end his glittering spell at the Bernabeu, which has included four La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues in 14 years.

Matthijs De Ligt has responded to reports he will join Manchester United in a deal that would see him earn £350,000 per week.

The Ajax star insists the reports make him laugh.

"I have read the reports about Manchester United,’ De Ligt told FOX Sports.

"I have seen the salary I would get, too. Would you take it?’ ‘People should take these reports with a grain of salt. The stories are funny though. ‘Everyone has been talking about my future for a year now. One day I will go there, and the next day I will go somewhere else.

"I have made quite a tour through Europe haven’t I? ‘My focus is on the Nations League and after that I will see what will happen."

Morata: I want to end career at Atletico

Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata says he wants to remain an Atletico Madrid player for as long as possible.

Morata returned to Madrid after a £70 move to Chelsea turned sour in his second year at Stamford Bridge.

The forward joined Diego Simeone's side on-loan in January and has no desire to return to west London.

"I am very clear that I want to stay here," the former Atletico youth player told Spanish sports newspaper Marca.

"Leaving here has not crossed my mind. I want it to be resolved as soon as possible. I'm happy here. I want to be here for all the years I have left as a professional.

"If it was solely down to me, I would have signed my contract with Atletico.

"It's what I want, but there are contract matters. I did everything possible to come here and I will do my best to stay."
