Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and more look ready to make waves in the summer transfer window with just a few weeks before the serious business begins.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to be busy as he sets about the biggest revamp at United in years. A new centre-back is high on his priority list with Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly, Inter's Milan Skriniar and Leicester's Harry Maguire all options. It won't just be incomings, however, with Paul Pogba a target for Real Madrid. Liverpool could be active too as they look to go one better after failing to win the Premier League title by just a single point. Champions Manchester City are always big players in the market and could go big with the prospect of a potential transfer ban looming. And departures could be as fascinating in the Premier League, with Alexis Sanchez's nightmare at Old Trafford likely to end with Inter Milan and Juventus fighting it out for his signature - if he drops his wage demands.

We will have all the latest throughout the day right here.

An exit from Arsenal?

Stefan Lichtsteiner appears set to leave the Emirates after just one season.

“I see it being quite difficult to stay but we are going to see what happens,” he told the Evening Standard. “I don’t know anything. The only important thing is the Europa League Final now.

“I really want to win this cup and bring this club back to the top level, back to the Champions League and winning important titles.”

Burnley have announced Aaron Lennon will be staying with the club next season, while it remains to be seen whether Peter Crouch departs or not.

Winger Lennon, who has been recovering from knee surgery that he underwent in December, has had an option in his existing contract activated to keep him on until the summer of 2020.

That also applies to full-back Phil Bardsley and midfielder Steven Defour, as boss Sean Dyche had already revealed.

Brighton could inflict a double blow Swansea as Graham Potter wants to bring Daniel James with him to the Amex.

TEAMtalk reports that Potter has told Swansea bosses that he wants to move to the Premier League side and has been trying to convince the young winger to join the Seagulls.

James has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United but Potter has reportedly told him that going to Brighton would work better for his development as he would get more first-team opportunities.

PSG could swap Buffon for another Gianluigi, as they are targeting AC Milan's highly-rated shot-stopper Donnarumma.

Julian Brandt is being lined up by Tottenham Hotspur as a potential replacement to Christian Eriksen.

They are now favourites to sign the Bayer Leverkusen winger, 23, with Liverpool also in the race, says SportBild.

Eriksen has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, though even if the Dane doesn't leave Pochettino would still like to bring the €25m Brandt to north London.

The race is on to sign Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrović.

SportBild claim that Bayer Leverkusen want the Serbian, who would cost any potential suitor at least €20m.

Crystal Palace and West Ham are also interested in the former Newcastle player, who scored 11 goals this season, as he looks unlikely to stay with Fulham in the Championship.
