From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

United are edging closer to a swap deal that would see Romelu Lukaku join Juventus and Argentinian playmaker Paulo Dybala move in the other direction. Lukaku has agreed terms with the Italian champions and both clubs are now just waiting on the decision of Dybala after the 25-year-old met with Maurizio Sarri yesterday afternoon. It's believed he'll demand Ed Woodward pays him close to £350,000-per-week to match United's top earners.
Arsenal are set to announce Nicolas Pepe on a club-record £72m transfer after persona terms were finalised and the Ivorian winger underwent a medical earlier in the week. The Gunners are still edging closer with their pursuit of Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, while a loan deal for Juve centre-back Daniele Rugani is also being mooted. First up, it's the biggest story of the day. After Romelu Lukaku agreed personal terms with Juventus and the Italian champions came to an agreement with Manchester United, a trade for the Belgian striker and Paulo Dybala is well and truly in motion.
Here's Chief Football Writer Miguel Delaney with the latest:
Arsenal are set to announce the arrival of Nicolas Pepe today after a £72m fee was agreed with Lille, personal terms were finalised and the player underwent a medical. He's been seen with the club's official photographer, walking in and out of London Colney, being saluted by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. All that's left is the announcement.
Zinedine Zidane has addressed Gareth Bale's golfing obession after it was revealed the Real Madrid winger had visited the course while ostensibly being unable to play in the club's friendly against Tottenham due to mental duress.
The Welshman saw his £1m-per-week move to China blocked by the board last week and looks set to stay with a manager who's actively tried to force him out.
Arsenal starlet Emile Smith Rowe is set for another loan move to the Bundesliga, as revealed by The Independent yesterday:
Laurent Koscielny is still determined to leave Arsenal this summer as the club captain continues his effective strike, after refusing to join the pre-season tour to the US.
The Frenchman is insistent the club honour a gentleman's agreement that will see him return to Ligue 1 for this season and Unai Emery admitted yesterday that the club are working to a resolution and hinted that there will be a replacement.
...That target is reported to be Daniele Rugani, according to reports in Italy.
The central defender, who was a target for Chelsea last summer, has seen his place in Turin come under threat after the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt and the Gunners are attempting to sign the defender on a two-year loan.
Chelsea youngser Kasey Palmer is set to undergo a medical with Bristol City after a £3.5m deal was agreed.
The 22-year-old has been included in Frank Lampard's pre-season perparations but is unwilling to go on loan for a third successive season and has instead elected to join former teammate Jay Dasilva in the south east.
Bruno Fernandes was all set to undergo a medical at Manchester United, however, it appears the Portuguese international's hopes of a move to one of Europe's elite clubs have been scuppered this summer by Paulo Dybala's potential move to Old Trafford.
It is an either/or scenario for United unless Paul Pogba forces through a move to Real Madrid. However, after Gareth Bale's departure collapsed, the French World Cup-winner looks set to remain with United and Fernandes is set to be the midfielder to miss out on a big-money move as a result.
United are still yet to stump up the cash for Leicester's Harry Maguire. Northern Football Correspondent Mark Critchley has the latest:
The Sun reports that Romelu Lukaku will remain at Manchester United if a deal for Paulo Dybala falls through with Inter Milan now firmly out of the race to sign the Belgian.
Lukaku is happy with his personal terms agreed with the Italian champions, but his future now hinges entirely on the diminutive Argentinian.
