The biggest transfer story of the window has, of course, been Manchester United’s interest in Sporting Lisbon skipper Bruno Fernandes. After weeks of little movement we are expecting that story to progress significantly in the next 48 hours, as United move to bolster their injury-hit squad. One of Wednesday’s most intriguing rumours was that Daniel Levy has contacted Real Madrid about potentially bringing Gareth Bale back to the club on loan. The Welshman would be open to the move and Real are desperate for him to leave the club – but will Spurs be able to afford his staggering wages, even if partially subsidised by the Spanish giants?
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been fairly active this month and could move for a third younger player while also continuing to monitor Timo Werner, who appears increasingly open to a move to Anfield. And Chelsea are also chasing a new striker and expect the Premier League rivals to clash over the next few days as they pursue similar transfer targets. United and Chelsea have both been linked with Dinamo and Spain star Dani Olmo. There could also be some big moves across Europe. Real Madrid have been linked with a £68m move for Timo Werner, as well as Flamengo wonder kid Reinier, while Arsenal have turned their eyes to RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano as a long-term target.
Yesterday, we reported that Newcastle United were interested in signing Danny Rose on loan. But now it seems as though they are facing some competition, as Sky report that SIX clubs are vying for his signature.
Disappointingly, Sky decline to mention the identity of the six clubs. But you can bet the majority are in the bottom half of the table.
West Ham have reportedly been offered Nantes midfielder Abdoulaye Toure.
The 25-year-old, who has scored three goals in 19 appearances this season, would set the Hammers back around £13m. Bargain!
It may well be early, but we have a done deal!
Sound that klaxon.
🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
Chelsea are still sniffing around for a new striker and a report in The Times this morning suggests they want to sign Edinson Cavani.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker has been heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid who have been struggling to hit the back of the net in La Liga this season.
But The Times says that Chelsea could move for Cavani imminently, signing the 32-year-old on loan for the rest of the season.
As reported earlier, England international Jodie Taylor has re-signed with Reign FC for the 2020 NWSL season, with an additional one-year option.
"I am pleased to be returning to Reign FC for the 2020 season," Taylor, who scored five goals in 16 appearances last season, said.
"There have been some exciting developments this off season, which I feel will only strengthen the club and team. I am eager to get started on what will be a promising year."
Tahith Chong's days at Manchester United appear numbered.
The 20-year-old winger is the subject of interest from Juventus and Inter Milan and his current contract expires in the summer.
No new United deal looks forthcoming and now his agent has suggested Chong is primed to leave Old Trafford.
"He [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] has different views on Tahith than the [club's] leadership," Alkan told Voetbal International.
"A coach thinks about himself, I think about my player. He has come to a point where he feels that he is not going any further. Then it's time to look further.
"Most importantly, the [next] club must have a good plan for him so that Tahith can develop further in a good environment."
Real Madrid are interested in loaning out Gareth Bale to his former club Tottenham Hotspur.
That's according to The Telegraph this morning, despite the recent assurances of Bale's agent that he would not leave Real on a short-term deal.
"Why would one of the best players on Earth go on loan? That's ridiculous," Jonathan Barnett told the BBC.
"At the moment, he is going to be playing football for Real Madrid and he has got two-and-a-half years left on his contract.
"Things can change but loans are ridiculous and there are not many clubs that can afford him anyway."
The Telegraph adds that Real Madrid have doubts over whether Spurs can finance any such move, given that Bale earns around £600k-per-week.
So file this rumour in the 'unlikely' category.
Some news from Italy and make sure you pay attention to this one, because it gets complicated.
Sky Sports Italia is claiming that...
- Inter Milan striker Matteo Politano has agreed a £20m move to Napoli.
- Napoli striker Fernando Llorente has agreed to join Inter on loan.
- Which means that Inter have officially ended their Olivier Giroud interest.
- Which, in turn, means that Edinson Cavani is unlikely to join the Blues.
We told you it was complicated!
Stockport County defender Festus Arthur is being scouted by Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Hull City, according to The Telegraph.
The 18-year-old has been a breakthrough star for the National League side this season and has already become a first-team regular for Jim Gannon this season.
