Sheffield United vs Newcastle LIVE: Result and reaction from Premier League fixture tonight
Follow all the action as Chris Wilder’s side attempt to build on their first win of the season
Follow all the action as Sheffield United welcome Newcastle to Bramall Lane in the Premier League this evening.
Chris Wilder’s beleaguered side finally secured their first victory this season against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup last weekend and the Blades will be desperate to kickstart what would by now be a miraculous escape from relegation. United have taken just two points from their opening 17 matches, an astonishingly low total, particularly after their high-flying exploits last season. To pick up points, their priority must be to drastically improve their output up front, with just eight goals scored in the league all season.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are attempting to escape a negative spiral of their own, having gone seven games without a victory in all competitions. Frustrations continue to grow over Steve Bruce’s cautious tactics, but the manager has promised his side will offer more in the way of attacking adventure tonight. Despite being chalked off as another loss, the Magpies were bitterly unlucky against Arsenal in the FA Cup last time out. Andy Carroll spurned two magnificent chances in normal time before the Gunners went on to snatch victory in extra-time. Follow all the action live below:
BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (90+5’)
Martial seems to have injured himself, clutching his hamstring as he makes way for Tuanzebe.
BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (90+4’)
Martial almost seals the points for United! The ball is played up to Cavani, who has space ahead of him. He lifts a pass into the path of Martial, but Pope is in the way of his low shot, which lacks some conviction.
BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (90+2’)
Both Shaw and Mee are okay to carry on. De Gea launches the ball upfield…
BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (90+1’)
Chance! United make a meal of another ball into the box and it drops to Tarkowski, a few yards out. He doesn’t connect with the bouncing ball, and the opportunity is gone.
Play is then quickly stopped after Mee and Shaw clash heads after a nasty collision. The physios rush on, and the first minute of four added on is up.
BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (89’)
Solskjaer brings off Fernandes, replacing him with McTominay.
BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (88’)
United just about deal with the Burnley corner, but there’s a VAR check for a potential handball from Maguire. The decision is no penalty.
Burnley have replaced Barnes with Jay Rodriguez.
BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (87’)
Chance! Burnley work the ball down the right and the ball into the box is right into the path of Vydra, who strikes it first time. It takes a nick off Bailly and slams into the side netting.
BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (85’)
Close! The ball drops to Brownhill just outside the United area and he slices a half-volley which flashes just past the far post, with De Gea motionless. Dyche, enthused on the touchline, applauds the effort and urges his players on.
BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (84’)
Vydra very nearly finds himself through on goal, pealing away from United’s centre-backs and almost latching onto a long ball. Maguire gets back and nudges the striker aside.
BURNLEY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED (82’)
Excellent defending from Tarkowski to deny Martial, who’s picked out in the box by Pogba. He takes one touch too many before unleashing, allowing the Burnley centre-back to get across and make the challenge.
