From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chris Wood may well have secured another season in the top flight for Burnley by scoring both goals in a 2-0 home win over Cardiff, a result that leaves the Welsh club five points from safety in 18th place.
Burnley now looks safe on 39 points, 11 ahead of Cardiff, while Southampton boosted its chances of staying up by beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1.
Brighton, though, is still in trouble after being hammered 5-0 at home by Bournemouth to drop to 17th place.
Fulham, which has also been relegated with Huddersfield, earned its first win since January by beating Everton 2-0.

Southampton 1-0 Wolves, 19 minutes
It's been a fun affair at St Mary's so far, and Wolves are growing into this one.
Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota have both have shots in the last few minutes, the former's saved by Angus Gunn, the latter's blocked.
Fulham 0-0 Everton, 22 minutes
Real life in Fulham!
They are giving Everton everything they've got and have been comfortably the better team so far at Craven Cottage.
Jordan Pickford does well to keep out an Aleksandar Mitrovic header, tipping over the crossbar.
Burnley 0-0 Cardiff, 24 minutes
Dwight McNeil has been one of the breakthrough stars of the Premier League season and he is once again threatening this afternoon, firing over the top from the edge of the box.
GOAL! Southampton 1-1 Wolves (Willy Boy, 28 minutes)
Wolves are level!
They've seized control of the game in the last ten minutes and capitalise on their advantage from another excellent Joao Moutinho set-piece, this time the towering Willy Boly hoisting his six-foot-five frame high into the air and heading past Angus Gunn.
GOAL! Southampton 2-1 Wolves (Nathan Redmond, 30 minutes)
But not for long!
Nathan Redmond is in fine form, and he scores his second of the afternoon and eighth of the season to put Southampton back ahead.
It's another excellent finish, latching on to a pass beyond the Wolves defence and lifting the ball delightfully over the charging Rui Patricio.
A bolter for the Nations League squad?
GOAL! Burnley 1-0 Cardiff (Chris Wood, 31 minutes)
Burnley take the lead!
Cardiff have looked shaky in the last few minutes at the back and this is woeful defending.
Burnley set up a routine from a corner, which is well delivered by Dwight McNeil, but Cardiff are lax in letting Chris Wood run free, the Kiwi heading home.
GOAL! Brighton 0-1 Bournemouth (Dan Gosling, 33 minutes)
Goals everywhere! Bournemouth open the scoring at the Amex!
It's a nice goal for the visitors, exchanging passes in and around the Brighton box with composure and class, a couple of players eschewing shooting opportunities in favour of a pass, Dan Gosling eventually taking the most opportune of these after a one-two with Callum Wilson.
Burnley 1-0 Cardiff, 35 minutes
That Bournemouth goal should hearten Cardiff but they are lucky not to be further behind at Turf Moor.
Ashley Westwood has twice spurned excellent opportunities, the latest due to a strong save from Neil Etheridge after breaking free one-on-one.
