Goncalo Guedes scored the only goal of the game as Portugal beat Holland to be crowned the first-ever Nations League champions.

The final in Porto was not a game for the ages as a match billed as a battle between the two captains, Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil Van Dijk, was settled by Valencia forward Guedes on the hour mark.

The 1-0 win was enough for the reigning European champions to add the inaugural Nations League crown to their honours list with victory in front of their own fans. Re-live the action below:

Ronaldo vs van Dijk

It's being touted as the match giving us the battle between all time great Cristiano Ronaldo and PFA Player of the year Virgil van Dijk.

It's been 64 Liverpool games since someone dribbled the ball past van Dijk, will Ronaldo change that tonight?

Ten minutes until kick off

Who are you going for?

Portugal or Netherlands?

Ronaldo or van Dijk?

Michael Jones9 June 2019 19:36

Portugal 0 - 0 Netherlands

Kick off: Portugal get us underway, whatever happens tonight one of these teams will be champions. One of these teams will make history.

Michael Jones9 June 2019 19:46

Portugal 0 - 0 Netherlands

3 mins: Babel tries to make a run through the defence for a ball over the top but Semedo has it covered. There's an energy to both teams so far, the nerves of a major final perhaps?

Michael Jones9 June 2019 19:49

Portugal 0 - 0 Netherlands

6 mins: Bernardo Silva gets wedged between Blind and van Dijk and goes down in the Netherlands penalty area. He adamantly wants a penalty but the referee is having none of it.

Michael Jones9 June 2019 19:51

Portugal 0 - 0 Netherlands

9 mins: Portugal spurt forward quickly and Bruno Fernandes gets into space on the ball. He's a long way out but decides to shoot anyway and pulls his shot wide of goal. Promising start but a poor end to that attack.

Michael Jones9 June 2019 19:55

Portugal 0 - 0 Netherlands

12 mins: Ronaldo sends the ball into the right side of the box and Fernandes sprints after it to win a corner of Blind. The corner is played short and as Fernandes takes a shot at goal Carvalho needs only a glancing touch to put the ball into the net but he misses it with his attempted header and Cillessen makes the catch.

Michael Jones9 June 2019 19:59

Portugal 0 - 0 Netherlands

15 mins: de Ligt tidies up after Bernardo causes some problems for van Dijk. Semedo threatens to nip in down the right but Blind covers with a sliding challenge.

Michael Jones9 June 2019 20:02

Portugal 0 - 0 Netherlands

18 mins: Dumfries and Depay get the ball into the box from the right side but they're eventually closed out and don't get a shot away.

Michael Jones9 June 2019 20:04

Portugal 0 - 0 Netherlands

21 mins: Portugal are playing some lovely football, a lot of quick, one touch passes moving the ball from left to right before Ronaldo delivers a dangerous ball into the box. There are no Portuguese men on the end of it but they done win a corner. That ball comes in and Netherlands deal with it without too much trouble.
