Manchester United are chasing reinforcements with the summer transfer deadline just two weeks away.

The 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace has hastened the urgency for new recruits with Jadon Sancho remaining the No 1 target. Borussia Dortmund have been holding out for £108m all summer but Ed Woodward is said to be confident they will drop the asking price before the deadline with personal terms already agreed with the England international.

Left-back is another priority position to upgrade with Porto’s Alex Telles another to be linked. A five-year deal has been agreed with a fee with the Portuguese club now being haggled over. There could yet be a number of exits too with Chris Smalling still set for Roma and Jesse Lingard a surprise target for Tottenham Hotspur and former boss Jose Mourinho.

ROMA COACH FONSECA DEMANDS SMALLING

Roma coach Paulo Fonseca has stated again that he wants to bring back Manchester United defender Chris Smalling to Roma.

Smalling enjoyed a successful season-long loan with the Serie A side last season, and is thought to be keen on a return to the Italian capital.

However both clubs are still at loggerheads on agreeing terms, with Roma’s offer reportedly in the region of £12m - £8m short of United’s valuation.

Italian paper Corriere dello Sport states that Fonseca has demanded reinforcements after their opening day 0-0 draw against Verona, and when reportedly asked about Smalling, Fonseca said: “Chris [Smalling]? I want him here.”

UNITED WON’T SIGN A CENTRE-BACK

Manchester United will not sign a new centre-back, despite their 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein states that despite their opening day loss to Palace, the club are prioritising other positions.

According to Ornstein, United are still trying to finalise an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho.

Furthermore, the club are thought to be in the market for a left-back, with Porto’s Alex Telles now the leading candidate following Tottenham’s signing of Sergio Reguilon.

Roma are still in negotiations with United over the purchase of Chris Smalling, but should the clubs fail to reach an agreement for the 30-year-old, Smalling may be re-introduced back into the first team squad at United, states Ornstein.

TELLES TO FORCE PORTO EXIT

Manchester United are prioritising a left-back, and are confident of signing Porto left-back Alex Telles.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano states that Telles is pushing to leave the Portuguese outfit in order to join United.

Romano believes that an opening bid from the Premier League outfit is forthcoming, but that they are also looking at alternatives.

United are also seeking a right-winger and a potential centre-back, according to Romano.
