The Brazilian looked to have claimed a deserved victory for City right at the death of an intriguing Premier League clash but his late strike was ruled out for a handball by Aymeric Laporte. The scenes as the goal was chalked off were reminiscent of the dramatic ending to last season's Champions League tie between the two sides at the same venue last season.
The ruling made the encounter extra frustrating for City, who had completely dominated proceedings and racked up 30 shots to the visitors' three.

Can anyone stop Manchester City? Pep Guardiola's side are on a formidable 15-game winning streak in the Premier League, and opened their season with an emphatic 5-0 victory at West Ham last weekend.
Tottenham have not fared particularly well against the top six in the Premier League of late. But memories of their dramatic Champions League quarter-final win over City are still fresh. And Mauricio Pochettino's team are certainly capable of matching today's opposition.
City, as is almost always the case these days, will be the strong favourites. But Tottenham will prove a stern early test for the champions, who will be aiming to return back to the top of the division after Liverpool's win earlier.
Changes
City make four changes to the team that won at West Ham: Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Nicolas Otamendi are all in, while John Stones, David Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus miss out on a place in Guardiola's starting XI.
Spurs, meanwhile, bring Christian Eriksen in for Lucas Moura. The former was influential as a substitute in last week's victory over Aston Villa, so Pochettino will no doubt be hoping for more of the same.
Mauricio Pochettino on his rivalry with Pep Guardiola:
"It is not a competition between him (Guardiola) and myself. Of course, I try to beat all the managers I'm going to face, I love to be competitive and I love to beat them, like they try to beat me.
"But football is a collective sport and always in that moment, playing at Espanyol against Barcelona and Tottenham against City, it's not a personal competition.
"The only way to see if one is better than the other is to play one v one and see what happens!"
Pep Guardiola on Spurs:
"Since I came here to England, Spurs have been a real contender every season.
"The first season they finished second… they've always been there. They're the second best team in Europe."
The teams are out at the Etihad! Just a couple of minutes away from kick off now...
City get things underway! The atmosphere's built nicely at the Etihad.
Manchester City 0-0 Tottenham
2 minutes
City waste no time in getting on the front foot, immediately launching an attack through De Bruyne, who swings a dangerous cross into the box. It's hacked clear, but Tottenham will need to defend well in the opening stages.
