From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Gabriel Jesus was denied a last-gasp winner by VAR as Tottenham Hotspur snatched a remarkable 2-2 draw against champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian looked to have claimed a deserved victory for City right at the death of an intriguing Premier League clash but his late strike was ruled out for a handball by Aymeric Laporte. The scenes as the goal was chalked off were reminiscent of the dramatic ending to last season's Champions League tie between the two sides at the same venue last season.

The ruling made the encounter extra frustrating for City, who had completely dominated proceedings and racked up 30 shots to the visitors' three.

City are quickly on the attack. The ball is played into Walker, who reaches the byline and pulls back a cross which only finds the arms of Lloris.

Ederson, as nonchalant as ever, sweeps an inch perfect pass out to Walker, who sets De Bruyne clear through the middle. He drives towards the Spurs box, eventually trying a curling shot which deflects for a corner.

City nearly make it 3-1 from the corner. The ball's worked out to Zinchenko, who shoots through a sea of blue shirts, but Lloris does well to get down low and parry the ball away.

Another City corner results in a penalty appeal as Laporte goes down in the box. He's claiming there was a foul from Sissoko, but there's very little in it.

City are hungry for a third goal, and no one more so than De Bruyne. He finds space again and fizzes a low left-footed shot narrowly past the post.

More fluid, penetrative football from City. It begins, as it so often does, with a long Ederson pass. Sterling eventually collects the ball and slides Aguero through, but the Argentine's shot is always rising over the bar.

The chances keep coming for City. This time it's Silva, slipped through by Sterling. He tries to finish first time, but can't get enough power on it to beat Lloris. A third goal looks an inevitability at the moment.

Manchester City 2-1 Tottenham

56 minutes

Some respite for Tottenham, who've been all over the place since the break. Lamela chips the ball into the path of Eriksen, who looks to chest it down inside the box. It's hacked away for a corner.

GOAL! Manchester City 2-2 Tottenham (Moura)

57 minutes

Spurs are level! Lucas Moura, moments after coming on as a substitute in place of Winks, climbs highest from the corner and glances a header past Ederson. If anything, it's even more unexpected than their first half equaliser. City have been rampant in this second half, but Tottenham, given an opportunity, are clinical.

Sterling robs Walker-Peters deep in Tottenham's half and drives towards the box. He looks to shoot but his effort is easily blocked. Then Rodri goes for goal, bringing an acrobatic save from Lloris.
