Liverpool vs Huddersfield Premier League preview

Liverpool's title destiny may still be out of their hands but they refuse to submit, with the 5-0 demolition of Huddersfield Town a reminder they are ready to pounce should Manchester City slip up.

The gap between top - the place occupied by Jurgen Klopp's side after this victory - and bottom could not have been more glaring as the visitors were outclassed at Anfield.

City, now two points behind with a game in hand, face a potentially tricky trip to Burnley knowing they cannot afford a mistake at this late stage of the campaign,

The relegated Terriers did themselves no favours after allowing Naby Keita to score after just 16 seconds, Liverpool's quickest Premier League goal and their 100th in all competitions this season. Relive all the action below:

Off Mohamed Salah goes in search of the hat-trick, running Erik Durm this way and that and eventually putting the German out of his misery by beating him to the inside, releasing as host that starts high, ends higher. No dice. It seems he'll have to settle for two.

Liverpool retake the lead in the title race, though with Manchester City to play at Burnley on Sunday it may well be short-lived.

For a sticky 25 minutes in the first half, Huddersfield troubled a nervous Liverpool, but Naby Keita's opener inside 15 seconds meant Jurgen Klopp's side were never truly in danger, pulling away with a second and a third before half-time, and Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane completed doubles in the second half to secure a five-goal margin of victory.

Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were both excellent, again, particularly the former, who may just edge out the two-goal duo for man of the match in my mind. 

Huddersfield showed character with that aforementioned spell in the first half, dominating Liverpool at Anfield for a period, and 5-0 is perhaps not truly reflective of how the game played out. They deserved at least a consolation for those minutes.
