Bale will join in a one-year loan deal with Spurs paying half of his wages and Madrid left paying the other half, and there will be no loan fee involved. It means the loan will cost Spurs around £13m for the year and the player will keep his astronomical £600k per week salary.
With Spurs also set to sign left-bak Sergio Reguilon, follow all the latest in a huge and exciting development for Spurs fans as their former star returns.
REAL HAVE BUY-BACK OPTION FOR REGUILON
Real Madrid have inserted a buy-back clause into the Sergio Reguilon deal, meaning the Spanish outfit can buy him in a year’s time for a fee believed to be somewhere in the region of €35-€40m.
The buy-back clause proved to be a sticking point in negotiations with Manchester United, who refused to entertain the idea.
However it seems this hasn’t been a problem for Spurs, who have agreed to let the buy-back option be included in the €30m deal for the left-back, according to Spanish journalist Alvaro Montero.
Montero spoke to Sky Sports about the deal.
BALE NEVER FULFILLED REAL POTENTIAL
Gareth Bale never fulfilled his true potential at Real Madrid, as he closes in on a return to the Premier League with Tottenham.
Bale spent seven years in La Liga, and won a multitude of trophies during his stint in Spain.
However La Liga TV presenter Semra Hunter says that the Welshman could’ve done more for Los Blancos.
“I think there is a shared sense of frustration that he’s never been able to live up to his full potential on a sustained basis,” Hunter told Sky Sports. “And there is a sense that we missed out a little bit more on what we could’ve had.”
Bale is expected to sign for Spurs tomorrow.
REAL REJECTED CHANCE TO SIGN ALLI
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane vetoed the chance to sign Spurs midfielder Dele Alli on loan during the Gareth Bale negotiations, according to a report in Spain.
Bale is closing in on a return to north London after seven years in the Spanish capital.
However according to Spanish daily AS, Spurs offered Alli in exchange for Bale during the talks, but was rejected out of hand by Zidane.
AS states that Zidane hasn’t forgiven Alli for a remark he made during a clash between the two sides in the Champions League in 2017.
Alli scored twice in a game Spurs won 2-1 at Wembley, but stated after the match that he felt should’ve ‘scored a hat-trick’ as he missed an easy chance.
Zidane didn’t take kindly to this comment, and so vetoed the chance to take the midfielder on loan this season.
Alli’s £100,000 per-week salary also reportedly went against him, with the Spanish giants looking to trim their wage bill in an effort to entice PSG’s Kylian Mbappe to join them next summer.
ROSE RELATIONSHIP WITH SPURS ‘UNREPAIRABLE’ SAYS SHERWOOD
Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood says Danny Rose’s relationship with Tottenham is now beyond repair, after learning that the left-back is training with Tottenham’s youth team.
Rose looks set to leave Spurs during this transfer window, with speculation linking him with a move to Genoa.
Sherwood was on Talksport radio and gave his opinion on the Rose situation.
“I think Danny Rose is still their best left-back,” Sherwood told the radio station. “He’s not got a shirt number. Something has got to give there and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be Jose and Daniel Levy giving anything away. So, Danny will probably leave the football club.
“Danny is different. He likes to be outspoken and I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. Personally, I just think you have to manage it. Just be honest with them – there is still time, I think they can still turn him around. Danny is that type.”
Sherwood was then told by former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor that Rose was changing by himself and training in the youth setup.
“Well, that’s unrepairable if that’s happened,” he responded. " I think the bridges are probably burnt now. I don’t think Jose’s going anywhere anytime soon, so I think Danny’s going to have to seek pastures new.”
ROSE IN ADVANCED TALKS WITH SERIE A SIDE
Tottenham defender Danny Rose is in advanced talks with Serie A side Genoa, according to The Daily Mirror.
Rose has fallen out of favour since the arrival of Jose Mourinho, and wasn’t even assigned a squad number for this season. Rose has also reportedly been made to train with Spurs’ youth side.
It’s now believed that the Englishman is in talks with a surprise move to Serie A.
THREE CLUBS INTERESTED IN FOYTH
Valencia, Villarreal and Leeds have reportedly registered interest in Spurs defender Juan Foyth, according to a report in Spain.
The 22-year-old is thought to be surplus to requirements in north London, and is reportedly one of five players Jose Mourinho would like moved on before the end of the transfer window.
Spanish outlet Cadena Ser states that La Liga side Valencia have made contact with the player’s entourage about the possibility of enticing the player to Spain.
The same source also states that Leeds and Villarreal have also made enquires about signing Foyth.
Any deal that Valencia would propose for the player would only be on loan, as Valencia are in financial difficulties.
MADRID ARE GETTING RID OF BALE PROBLEM SAYS MIJATOVIC
Former Real Madrid forward Predrag Mijatovic believes his old club got rid of a problem in Gareth Bale, and that the Welshman ‘gave up fighting’ for a first team place.
Bale is on the verge of a move back to north London, after seven years in the Spanish capital.
The two clubs have agreed on a season-long loan, with Los Blancos reportedly paying 60% of Bale’s £600,000 per-week salary.
Mijatovic spoke to Spanish radio station Cadena SER about the move.
Madrid get rid of a problem with Bale. For him it is also important to play, and he will achieve it.
The relationship with Zidane was bad and he gave up fighting. I don't know who the culprit is. Bale can play football, but not at Real Madrid.
You have to know what goes through his head to know if he is guilty. Surely one day he will give an interview where he tells us how he has spent these seven years.
BALE CAN CATAPULT SPURS INTO TOP FOUR SAYS WRIGHT
Tottenham’s imminent capture of Gareth Bale on loan can catapult Jose Mourinho’s side into the top four this season, according to Arsenal legend Ian Wright.
Bale is closing in on a return to the club where he made his name on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid, and Wright, speaking to the official Premier League channel, believes that the Welshman is still world-class and has a lot to offer:
You have to say, if he can modify his game and play in that area up with the top three, him, Heung-min Son and Harry Kane – which sounds fantastic – then it’s going to be an unbelievable signing .
You’re talking about somebody who is easily worth 15 or 20 goals, and how many points? 20 odd points? What’s that going to do for Spurs? Definitely going to be in the top four and challenging.
And if you’re talking about the defence, with Reguilon and Matt Doherty, with that thrust that they’ve got – that’s what Harry Kane was missing.
What people can’t get carried away with is: you’re not getting the Bale that left, obviously. You’re getting an older Bale, a more experienced Bale, but we’re still talking about a world-class Bale.
SPURS APPROACH FOR INGS REJECTED
Tottenham have seen an approach for Southampton striker Danny Ings rejected by the club, according to the Daily Mail.
Spurs are on the lookout for a back-up striker for Harry Kane, with Jose Mourinho in particular demanding another centre forward.
They had been linked with moves for Torino’s Andrea Belotti and Crystal Palace’s Alexander Sorloth.
However Belotti is staying put at Torino, and Sorloth is close to joining RB Leipzig.
The Mail now reports that The Saints have rejected an approach from Tottenham for the 28-year-old.
BLADES BOSS WANTS BALE TO STAY IN MADRID
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder would like to see Gareth Bale remain in Madrid, rather than return to the Premier League.
Speaking ahead of The Blades’ EFL Cup tie against Burnley, Wilder was asked about Bale’s impending return to England.
"Hopefully Gareth stays in Madrid, it's a lovely place Madrid and there are some great golf courses out there so don't make it any harder for us,” he joked.
