Bernard has been very lively in the opening half an hour. Calvert-Lewin does well to hold the ball up on the left and slip the winger away down the flank. He cuts inside and surges past Wan-Bissaka, but his attempted through ball is intercepted.

Off the post! Digne and Bernard link up on the left and the former drives into the box, lashing a shot at goal from a narrow angle. It slams against the outside of the post, although the better option might have been to look for Calvert-Lewin in the middle.

An Everton free kick is cleared by United and the visitors look to break. In the end the ball into the box from Mata isn’t good enough and Pickford claims easily.

GOAL! Everton 1-1 Manchester United (Fernandes)

A superbly worked goal from United, who move the ball quickly out to the left, where Shaw lifts a cross into the box. It’s met by Fernandes, who guides a header perfectly into the top corner. United are quickly level.

It’s another avoidable goal from a United perspective. The flick on appeared to come off Lindelof rather than Calvert-Lewin, and Bernard was given far too much time and space to pick his spot.

GOAL! Everton 1-0 Manchester United (Bernard)

Everton lead! A long ball forward from Pickford is flicked on by Calvert-Lewin into the path of Bernard. The diminutive winger cuts onto his right foot and squeezes a low shot past De Gea and into the bottom left corner.

Rashford, typically purposeful, drives inside from the left and lays the ball off to Fernandes, who has another shot blocked. The ball comes back to Rashford, whose sliced effort floats just over the bar with Pickford scrambling across his goal to reach it.

Close! Everton fail to clear the corner, and when the ball is hooked back into the box Martial finds himself one on one with Pickford. He controls well and then drives a left-footed shot narrowly wide.
