Midfielder Jorginho is now the target of Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta keen to add more options in central midfield, but it is unclear whether the Blues are willing to sanction a sale to their rivals after Willian departed in a free this summer and signed at the Emirates.
Meanwhile a host of Chelsea players have been pushed to fringes following the club’s big-spending summer, and several are looking for a route out to regular playing time.
Antonio Rudiger is one of those after the arrival of Thiago Silva, and Rudiger is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain, where Silva recently departed, for a season-long loan.
Likewise Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley are all considering their positions at the club, with Aston Villa reportedly interested in loan deals.
DON’T READ TOO MUCH INTO SQUAD SELECTIONS SAYS LAMPARD
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says little should be read into his team selections.
Lampard dropped Antonio Rudiger and Ruben Loftus-Cheek from the squad entirely for last night’s 6-0 win against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup, leading to speculation that the pair might be sent off on loan.
Lampard said: "That he (Rudiger) was not in the squad, that’s just a choice at the moment; with the centre-halves I have I can’t have them all in the squad.
“Yes, there may be movement in the squad, we know that, but nothing is concrete so don’t read too much into those selections at the minute.
“It will have to be things that are right for the club, the individual and me, in terms of what happens in the next couple of weeks.”
LAMPARD HAPPY WITH HAVERTZ SHOWING
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was happy with Kai Havertz following his hat-trick against Barnsley in the third round of the Carabao Cup last night.
The German international got off the mark for his new club since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen for £62m, and Lampard was happy with his display.
“Tonight was a great exercise for him to see how we want to work off the ball, for him to be a part of that," said Lampard following the game.
”He made a great recovery tackle for Ross' [Barkley] goal. And then to also just have some freedom on the ball and roam in more central areas.
“I thought it was a great combination with Tammy, and I was pleased with the way he grew into the game in terms of confidence. It was a great night for Kai, and the first of many for him.”
RUDIGER’S DAYS AT STAMFORD BRIDGE NUMBERED?
Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger could leave the club after slipping down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
The London outfit signed Brazilian Thiago Silva during the summer, and The Daily Mail reports that the German defender has slipped to fifth choice in the club’s list of defenders.
Rudiger hasn’t been named in the squad for the last two match days, and The Daily Mail states that 27-year-old wants to leave before the end of the transfer window in order to secure first team football ahead of Euro 2021.
Barcelona are thought to be interested in Rudiger, as are old club Roma, who sold Rudiger to Chelsea three years ago.
ASTON VILLA REGISTER INTEREST IN CHELSEA DUO
Aston Villa have made enquires over signing one of Ross Barkley or Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to The Daily Mail.
Both players have fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and Villa are seeking to sign one of the pair on loan before the transfer window ends.
MENDY TO BE UNVEILED TODAY
Edouard Mendy is expected to be announced as a Chelsea player today.
The Rennes goalkeeper is due to sign for the London outfit today, after the clubs agreed a £22m fee for the 28-year-old.
Mendy will likely replace current goalkeeper Kepa in between the posts, who is going through a bad run of form.
CHELSEA FORWARD SEEKING LOAN MOVE
Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi is seeking a temporary move away from Stamford Bridge in order to secure first team football, states Talksport.
Hudson-Odoi, 19, has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea in light of the club’s extravagant splurge during this transfer window.
Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, and Timo Werner have all been signed, and the English forward wants to leave on loan before the close of the transfer window.
Alex Crook, Talksport’s transfer expert, believes Champions League holders Bayern Munich may register interest.
“Chelsea have been the big spenders this transfer window, but the emphasis is now on trimming their wage bill," said Crook.
“Talksport understands Callum Hudson-Odoi is pushing for a loan move with Bayern Munich reviving their interest.
“Meanwhile, Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge with Aston Villa keen on signing the England international."
