Chelsea remain active in the transfer market despite spending over £200m - while Declan Rice from West Ham remains a key target for Frank Lampard, one of the priorities left is to thin down the squad with many players unable to gain minutes this season after the recent spending spree.

One player they will not want to sacrifice in that process is midfielder N’Golo Kante with Premier League rivals Manchester United thought to be keen. The Red Devils have made contact over the France international, while there could be other exits and additions to the Blues midfield.

Paris Saint-Germain have signalled their interest in Jorginho to the west London club, with the French champions keen to pick up the Italy international on a loan deal. Should either Kante or Jorginho go, that will surely lead Lampard to push harder for a move for West Ham’s Rice, but Hammers assistant coach Alan Irvine said on Monday night that the England international is “extremely happy” where he is. NEW CHELSEA SIGNING COULD MAKE DEBUT TOMORROW

Edouard Mendy could make his debut for Chelsea against Tottenham tomorrow night having signed from Rennes for £22m last week.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is unlikely to be involved after his latest mistake against Liverpool, while Willy Caballero is expected to continue as a squad player despite starting at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

“It has been very positive, the early signs and interactions, as a man and on the training pitch," Lampard said of Mendy.

"He has settled in very well. He is a good goalkeeper, we know that. We know a lot about him and we will see how we go.”

LAMPARD INSISTS KEPA HASN’T PLAYED LAST GAME FOR CHELSEA

Frank Lampard has refuted claims that Kepa Arrizabalaga will never play for the club again.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper, signed for £71.6m two years ago, has faced widespread criticism after his latest mistake in Chelsea’s defeat against Liverpool eight days ago.

He was replaced by Willy Caballero for Sunday’s draw at West Brom, and the Blues have signed Edouard Mendy from Rennes.

But Lampard has again publicly backed Kepa.

“I certainly won't go to the point of saying he's played his last game for Chelsea,” said the Chelsea boss.

"I think it's been a difficult time for Kepa - I know it and he knows it. But we should certainly not jump to that conclusion.

"Also - and I felt quite strongly about this - we should understand that Kepa is a young man. A lot of the spotlight on him I think has become slightly unfair.

"I have to protect him because I know he's a good lad, playing with absolute professionalism and trying to do the best he can."

HUDSON-ODOI COULD PLAY ‘BIG PART’ BUT MOSES NOT IN CONSIDERATION

Callum Hudson-Odoi could play a a “big part” in Chelsea’s season despite speculation over his future, says Frank Lampard.

The Chelsea boss has also hinted at the imminent exit of Victor Moses.

“At the moment Victor isn't in that position with us, he hasn't been part of the bubble,” Lampard said in his press conference. "We will see how the week goes.

“We are not inundated with wingers, we will need players and if Callum [Hudson-Odoi] makes impressions like he did at West Brom then he will play a big part.”

LAMPARD GIVES RUDIGER UPDATE

Frank Lampard has provided an update on the future of Antonio Rudiger.

The defender appears to be surplus to requirements at Chelsea following the arrival of Thiago Silva.

But Lampard hasn’t ruled out the possibility of him remaining at the club, despite rumours of a potential loan move to West Ham.

“I wouldn't assume anything,” said the Chelsea boss in his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Carabao Cup game against Tottenham. “I will make no assumption.”

KANTE STILL INTER’S NUMBER ONE TARGET

Conflicting reports appear to be emerging over Inter’s interest in N’Golo Kante.

The latest, from Tuttosport (via SempreInter), claims the Serie A club are still hopeful of signing the Frenchman.

Antonio Conte’s admiration for Kante is not a secret, and Inter could offer midfielder Marcelo Brozovic to Chelsea in an attempt to sweeten the deal.
