Tottenham Hotspur travel to Brighton this afternoon with Mauricio Pochettino’s job very much on the line.

They desperately need to return to winning ways this afternoon and will be the favourites against Brighton, who have only won one match this season. Follow live updates below:

Team News

This feels like a hugely important game for Spurs. Their humiliation against Bayern in midweek has cast doubt over the future of this team, over the future of Mauricio Pochettino too.

A win at the Amex, then, is crucial, not just to avoid slipping away from the top four but to regain some confidence. Tottenham have not become a bad team overnight, but they must prove themselves against Brighton this afternoon.

The home side, meanwhile, are looking for just a second Premier League win this season. They sit a point outside the bottom three and are yet to really get going under Graham Potter. But they might sense an opportunity against a wounded Spurs team today.

Tottenham make four changes from the team that lost 7-2 against Bayern. Alli, Winks, Rose and Aurier (suspended) are out, and in come Dier, Davies, Eriksen and Lamela.

For Brighton, young striker Aaron Connolly starts as they look to address their lack of goals - they've managed just five in seven games so far.

Pochettino has insisted Spurs are capable of bouncing back from Tuesday night's thrashing.

“We all think the same. We were talking before training, during training, after training and at lunchtime, and we all feel the same," he said.

“It’s so painful. You cannot be happy with that defeat. And we are trying to move on.

“They want another opportunity to play and to replay and rebuild the confidence we need to win games.

“But most important is that we know that for 30 to 35 minutes in the first half was our best period in the season.

“One bad result is not going to change our plans. We are so strong in our mentality and ideas."

Graham Potter will not be taking Spurs lightly today, despite recent results.

“For us, we focus on ourselves and what we have to do. It’s a home game against a top team with a top manager and we have to play well,” said the Brighton boss.

“What he’s (Pochettino) done at that club, I have the utmost respect for. He’s competed at the top of the league, restructured in terms of into a new stadium, not competed in terms of the resources at the very, very top but still in the top four above big teams.

“The style of football I really like, flexible, Champions League finalists (in June) – I think he’s done a wonderful job.”
