After a strong start, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the Gunners a deserved lead, turning in Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s rifled cross after 35 minutes.
However, the Gunners were made to pay for switching off in the second half when Moussa Dembele stole into the box unmarked to head home the equaliser. Nine minutes later, after Gabriel Martinelli’s effort was ruled outside, the French striker put Lyon ahead with a cool finish into the bottom corner. Relive all the action below.
What time does it start?
The Emirates Cup gets underway with Arsenal Women taking on Bayern Munich at 12:30pm, before the men’s side take on Lyon at 3:15pm.
Where can I watch it?
The match will be shown live on Premier Sport 1, with full coverage provided on The Independent.
Depay is at the heart of a tidy Lyon move around the edge of Arsenal's box, but a tame shot by Traore is all that comes of the visitors' attack. It's enough for a corner, but Arsenal deal with it well.
Lovely link-up play between Mkhitaryan and Ainsley Maitland-Niles on the right wing, but again, Arsenal lack the final product.
Marcal takes a throw-in deep in the Gunners' half and finds Depay by the corner flag. The Dutch winger tries to dribble past Calum Chambers, but the Arsenal man uses his strength to dispossess Depay.
Mkhitaryan crosses in from the right and the ball goes in off Aubameyang. I'm not sure how intentional that finish was from the Gabon international, but either way, it's in the back of the next. A deserved lead for Arsenal.
The goal arrived on the 36-minute mark and Arsenal will be hoping to maintain their lead for what's left of the half.
Lyon earn another corner, but once more they fail to capitalise. The French club are trying to respond to that Arsenal goal, but there's only five minutes left in the half.
Some miscommunication in the Arsenal defence sees the ball trail along the edge of their box and to the feet of Depay. He takes a moment to line up the shot, but blazes well over the bar.
Lyon go close! Monreal gives the ball away sloppily to Lucas, who leads a smooth move in the box and slides a low shot across goal. It's not far away, but Arsenal survive.
That's the final play of the half. Arsenal lead 1-0 at half-time.
Aubameyang was the difference-maker in that first half, finding the net with an instinctive finish after 36 minutes of football.
Youngsters Nelson and Willock were perhaps the most impressive Gunners though, both looking comfortable and confident on the ball, and eager to attack.
Lyon, who started with energy, faded, but Sylvinho's players worked hard after conceding. There's a foundation for the Ligue 1 side to build on in the second half, which is coming up soon.
