Chelsea face Juventus in Champions League Group H looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the Premier League season.

Thomas Tuchel’s side were beaten by Manchester City on Saturday at Stamford Bridge as they slipped from top spot. They began their continental campaign with a hard-fought victory over Zenit St Petersburg but travel to Turin with a depleted squad. N’Golo Kante has tested positive for Covid-19 and is tabsent, while all of Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Reece James have been ruled out due to injury.

Juventus produced a fine performance in Sweden as they beat Malmo in their opening group fixture. Back under the management of Massimiliano Allegri, who guided the club to the final of this competition in 2015 and 2017, it has been a mixed start to the season for Juventus, who lost Cristiano Ronaldo this summer. Known for their defensive solidity and structure in Allegri’s previous spell, recent results suggest this iteration of the Italian giants may be less stodgy – the club has won each of their last two games 3-2.

They will be wary of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, who has begun the season in strong scoring form after returning to London, and nearly joined Juventus in 2019. Yet the Belgian possesses a curiously poor record against the club: Lukaku has scored just once in six previous appearances against Juventus.

Missing a number of key players, Tuchel will be keen for his star striker to reverse that record in a crucial away encounter. Follow live minute-by-minute action below:

It was a nip and tuck first half for both sides. Here’s hoping for some improvement. The players are ready to get going again.

HT: Juventus 0-0 Chelsea

A reminder that Chelsea have lost their last four games against Serie A opponents in Italy. So far they are not being beaten, but certainly need to improve if they are going to win the second half.

HALF-TIME: Juventus 0-0 Chelsea

Not a great half. The best chances have come for Juventus, with Chiesa firing narrowly wide following a swift counter-attack.

Chelsea have enjoyed lots and lots of the ball but not really created anything to write home about.

Let’s hope for better in the second half.

Juventus 0-0 Chelsea

45 mins: Lukaku wins Chelsea a corner as we edge towards the break.

It’s swung in by Alonso and falls for Thiago Silva who hammers his shot against Bonucci before Juventus clear.

Scrappy, messy stuff.

Juventus 0-0 Chelsea

44 mins: Juventus have grown into the half, there’s no doubt about that. Chiesa has been a particularly bright spark for the hosts.

But let’s not lie to ourselves, it has not been a good 45 minutes of football.

Juventus 0-0 Chelsea

42 mins: Dear me. Cuadrado wins a free-kick for Juventus right on the edge of the Chelsea box. Juventus opt to make a wall next to the Chelsea one in a bid to block Mendy’s view, but the ball then hits Rabiot! Not sure I’ve ever seen that before.

Juventus then win another free-kick which is straight into the arms of the Chelsea keeper.

Juventus 0-0 Chelsea

40 mins: Chelsea look to go more direct. Rudiger attempts to pump a long ball up towards Lukaku. The Belgian has space ahead of him but the ball bounces off his head as he is making his run and squirms away for a goal kick.

Been that kind of evening for the Chelsea striker so far.

Juventus 0-0 Chelsea

37 mins: Not the most exciting game at the moment, albeit an intriguing tactical battle.

Juventus happy for Chelsea to have the ball and hit them on the break. But when Chelsea begin to sit a little deeper it becomes a game between two sides happy to retreat.

Needs a goal.

Juventus 0-0 Chelsea

34 mins: All of Chelsea’s possession feels like it’s being used up by Jorginho and Kovacic. There’s nobody running in behind, it’s all to feet and in front of Juventus.

The whistles are deafening around the stadium when the visitors keep the ball without any real attacking intent. Eventually Juventus win themselves a free-kick and Chelsea are becoming frustrated.
