Despite receiving a jubilant homecoming from a packed out Wembley Stadium on Saturday night, Gareth Southgate’s men were left to rue a string of missed chances after they were taught a footballing lesson of game management by a confident and clinical Spanish side.
England’s opponents for the night are an in-form Switzerland, who fared a lot better in their opening Nations League game after thrashing Iceland 6-0 on Saturday evening. They will be looking to inflict further misery on Southgate’s men when they meet on Tuesday night.

Scoring one goal and assisting two on the night, Shaqiri’s potential threat to England should come as no surprise for regular viewers of the Premier League who have seen how devastating the little Swiss can be on his day.
Not only tricky with the ball at his feet, the winger possesses a wand of a left foot that can be extremely successful on set pieces and outside of the box with the spectacular almost a regular feature of the player’s performances.

All of England's work is almost undone as we enter five added minutes.
Stones is caught out by a bouncing ball and Ajeti is in and fires over.

Well that was better. England were playing some very good football in the second half and definitely deserved their 1-0 win. Marcus Rashford was making things happen all evening and Danny Rose put in a man-of-the-match at wing-back in Luke Shaw's absence.
The first half was a little sluggish, but things got much better after the break.
Jack Pitt-Brooke's verdict from the King Power
"England did improve in the second half there but even then the winning goal did come out of the blue. The rhythm of both teams was disrupted in the second half by all the changes and it is hard to read too much into what happened after that.
"So while the win is impressive enough, and there are a few good individual performances - Rashford and Rose - I don't think there will be too much celebration of this display."

"All of us, we weren't happy. The gaffer had stern words with us and we were much better. The gaffer's told us we want to be confident. The atmosphere was brilliant, it gives you that bit of a boost."
Danny Rose
"We spoke at half time and we weren't happy with how we was playing and pressing. We did a lot better in the second half. I've been fit for a while and hopefully I've stopped getting the niggly injuries, if I stay fit I know i know I'll get back to where I was.
