From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Southgate is already looking towards that tournament after bringing in new faces to his squad, with Luke Shaw and Alex McCarthy brought into the side, while Jamie Vardy and Gary Cahill have retired from international football and both Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling have withdrawn due to injury.
The match is the first to take place in Group 4 of the Nations League, with Croatia making up the three-team line-up, but England do not face Croatia until next month. The group stage sees team play each other home and away, with the table-toppers going on to next June’s semi-finals and the nation who finishes bottom relegated to League B.

Here come the teams, they walk out onto the Wembley pitch, a playing surface with three lions covering the grass and Gareth Southgate presents Harry Kane with the Golden Boot trophy from the World Cup
Kick off is just a couple of minutes away, so grab a brew, a beer or a toilet break and come right back
KICK OFF: England 0 - 0 Spain
England start the action and work the ball upfield before giving possession away to Spain, Ramos punts the ball high looking for Thiago but the Spaniard is offside
5 mins: England 0 - 0 Spain
A chorus of boos echos out from the crowd every time Ramos gets the ball, Spain work it forward but England defend well and win win a couple of throw ins, they push the balll up high but Gomez is caught in possession and Spain have a chance to counter
8 mins: England 0 - 0 Spain
Gomez brings down Saul wide of England's box, the free kick comes in and Aspas wins a header in the the area knocking it back across goal before Pickford easily claims it
10 mins: GOAL! England 1 - 0 Spain - Rashford
Fantastic work from Luke Shaw, first he makes a diving challenge at the back when Spain where looking threatening, England then work the ball on the right before switching it to Shaw on the left, he runs it forward and slots it into Rashford in the box who finishes easily
12 mins: GOAL! England 1 - 1 Spain - Saul
Carvajal beats Shaw running down the right wing for Spain, he gives it to Rodrigo who runs the ball into the box before squaring it to Saul who clinically feeds it past Pickford to draw Spain level
17 mins: England 1 - 1 Spain
England might be rocked a little by the speed at which Spain came back at them after the first goal but they're beginning to settle down, just as I typed that Henderson brings down Alonso and gets a yellow card
21 mins: England 1 -1 Spain
Carvajal is making Luke Shaw work hard in defence but the Manchester United man is up to the task, Spain still look more confident on the ball though, they're certainly seeing more of it than England
Sports editor Ed Malyon has his say on those quick-fire goals:
"England’s goal was a zippy, counter-attacking strike but Spain’s was pure technique. Perfect cutback then perfect finish from Saúl, but Gareth Southgate looks none too pleased with his massed defenders who failed to stop the dribble, pass and shot"
