From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Tottenham recorded the biggest away win in club history on Friday as Fernando Llorente scored a hat trick to help crush fourth-tier Tranmere 7-0 in the third round of the FA Cup.

Tranmere held out until Serge Aurier got Tottenham rolling with a strike from 25 meters (27 yards) five minutes before halftime.

Son Heung-min set up Llorente and Aurier early in the second half and made it 4-0 with a goal of his own in the 57th.

Llorente then added back-to-back goals in the 71st and 72nd before late substitute Harry Kane capped the demolition.

Besides the biggest road victory for the club founded in 1882, it was also its largest margin of victory since beating Wigan Athletic 9-1 in 2009.

GOAL! Tranmere 0-1 Tottenham (Aurier)

40 minutes

From nowhere, Spurs lead. Tranmere struggle to clear the ball and Aurier robs Norwood on the edge of the box. The Ivorian goes for goal and picks out the top corner, with Davies helpless. Tottenham are in front just as it looked like Tranmere might make it to half time level.

That goal is a real blow for Tranmere, who had done well to disrupt Spurs after a difficult opening period. Spurs are controlling possession again now and look more confident.

Half time: Tottenham go in a goal up thanks to Serge Aurier's late strike, which took a deflection off Monthe. Tranmere might consider themselves unfortunate, having held their own for much of the first half.

An unlikely goalscorer for Spurs.

Tranmere get us going again for the second half at Preton Park. Can they pull off a famous comeback? The odds are stacked against them now.

GOAL! Tranmere 0-2 Tottenham (Llorente)

48 minutes

That could put this tie to bed. Son bursts in behind and pulls the ball back across goal for Llorente, who makes no mistake, drilling his finish into an empty net. Spurs have started the second half quickly and got their reward.

Tranmere 0-2 Tottenham

51 minutes

Tranmere almost respond immediately. A long throw is flicked on and falls to Gilmour, whose shot takes a nick off Aurier and flies just over the bar. Their best chance of the game so far.

Tranmere 0-2 Tottenham

Gazzaniga assertively claims the ball from another long throw and launches a kick into the path of Lucas. He's through on goal, but Davies is out quickly to win the ball at the Brazilian's feet.
