From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manchester City travel to South Wales as they continue their hunt for an unprecedented quadruple with Championship Cardiff City standing in their way.

The Premier League leaders qualified for the EFL Cup final in midweek with victory over Cardiff’s rivals Bristol City.

Cardiff are hoping this meeting with City will happen at least twice more in the next 18 months as they are chasing promotion to the Premier League having made a fine fight of it in the opening half of the season.

GOAL! Cardiff City 0-2 Manchester City (Sterling)

37' - The visitors have the ball in the net again and this time it counts as Raheem Sterling nods the ball home from a wonderful Bernardo Silva cross.

Manchester City are in cruise control here.

42' - Kevin De Bruyne leads a swift City counter-attack but this time, surprisingly, it doesn't end with a shot on goal as Danilo drives a cross out for a throw-in on the other side of the pitch.

He's probably the last City player you'd want in such an advanced position.

45' - Leroy Sane threatens to score a magnificent individual goal after a run from the edge of City's area but Joe Bennett cynically brings him down just outside Cardiff's box.

The defender receives a booking for his troubles but, upon watching the replay, he should probably be off. That was a really nasty challenge.

Half-time - Cardiff City 0-2 Manchester City

The referee brings an end to the opening period and the visitors lead at the break through goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling.

That really was a walk in the park for the Premier League leaders.

46' - We are back underway at the Cardiff City Stadium and the visitors have made a change at the break, with Sergio Aguero replacing Leroy Sane.

52' - Huge chance for Manchester City!

Raheem Sterling rounds Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge but defender Sean Morrison gets back in the nick of time to make a crucial last-ditch challenge and put the ball behind for a corner.

56' - Neil Etheridge's long goal-kick is flicked on to Kenneth Zohore by Callum Paterson but the Cardiff striker blazes his shot over the crossbar.

That was a half-chance for the hosts.
