After consulting VAR the referee disallows Juan Mata's goal for offside! However, we've still not seen any conclusive evidence to prove that he was in fact offside.

Right, let's recap exactly what happened at the end of that first half...
Juan Mata thought he had doubled United's lead but the on-field referee, Kevin Friend, opted to consult VAR to check whether the Spaniard was offside in the build-up to the goal.
The video assistant referee, Neil Swarbrick, then attempted to check whether Mata was on or offside but a technical hitch meant he couldn't accurately do that.
So, instead of doing the logical thing and allowing the goal to stand (after all, it wasn't an obvious officiating error to allow it in the first place), he made the call by himself and decided to disallow the goal.
