From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Alvaro Morata scored twice as holders Chelsea eventually saw off Nottingham Forest to advance to the FA Cup fourth round.
The Spaniard, who may yet leave Stamford Bridge this month, was on hand to strike home twice in the second half to save Cesc Fabregas' blushes who missed a first-half penalty on his final appearance in English football.
Here's how it played out:

29 minutes: PENALTY SAVED! Chelsea 0-0 Nottingham Forest
Fabregas doesn't have his moment of glory (yet) in his last game in English football!
He stutters, but Luke Steele doesn't flinch and saves brilliantly down to his right and tips it around the post.
Fleetwood Town 0-1 AFC Wimbledon
Earlier, Andy Barcham put AFC Wimbledon in front at Fleetwood in the 16th minute.
36 minutes: Chelsea 0-0 Nottingham Forest
Chelsea break quickly, and Morata feeds Zappacosta whose near post drive is saved by an inspired Luke Steele.
Forest just about clear from the resulting corner.
40 minutes: Chelsea 0-0 Nottingham Forest
Ross Barkley is booked for a late tackle on Joao Carvalho.
42 minutes: Chelsea 0-0 Nottingham Forest
Loftus-Cheek is injured here, and is being replaced by Eden Hazard.
Not a bad substitute to have when you're looking to break the deadlock...
44 minutes: Chelsea 0-0 Nottingham Forest
Forest have played well in the last ten minutes or so, and are matching Chelsea as we head towards the break.
The visitors have had a few corners but haven't been able to make the most of them as of yet.
HALF TIME: Chelsea 0-0 Nottingham Forest
Not quite sure how, but Forest have their clean sheet in tact at the break!
Chelsea were on top for most of proceedings, and have had numerous chances, particularly Alvaro Morata.
But the half will be remembered for Luke Steele's fantastic save from Cesc Fabregas' penalty, with today's Chelsea captain denied a moment to savour on his last appearance in English football.
Forest have offered little in attack, but are 45 minutes from a replay.
Here are the scores at the break across the country in the FA Cup:
- Accrington Stanley 0-0 Ipswich Town
- Aston Villa 0-1 Swansea
- Bolton 0-1 Walsall
- Brentford 0-0 Oxford United
- Chelsea 0-0 Nottingham Forest
- Derby 0-1 Southampton
- Everton 2-1 Lincoln
- Fleetwood Town 0-1 AFC Wimbledon
- Gillingham 0-0 Cardiff
- Middlesbrough 0-0 Peterborough
