Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Alvaro Morata scored twice as holders Chelsea eventually saw off Nottingham Forest to advance to the FA Cup fourth round.

The Spaniard, who may yet leave Stamford Bridge this month, was on hand to strike home twice in the second half to save Cesc Fabregas' blushes who missed a first-half penalty on his final appearance in English football.

Here's how it played out:

25 minutes: Manchester United 1-0 Reading

A penalty shout for United as Sanchez's cross is blocked from close range by Yiadom.

It does hit his arm, but he's outside the box, so no VAR involved this time round.

At Turf Moor, Burnley are awarded a penalty against Barnsley as Matej Vydra is brought down but VAR overturns the decision!

29 minutes: Manchester United 1-0 Reading

End to end stuff at Old Trafford!

First, Lukaku is through on goal and forces a great save down to his right by Jakkola, and then Reading's Danny Loader has a chance before being led wide by Romero who blocks his shot.

GOAL! Bournemouth 0-2 Brighton (Bissouma 34')

Quick-fire double by the visitors on the south-coast!

37 minutes: Manchester United 1-0 Reading

Great improvisation by Jaakkola!

The Reading keeper receives a short back-pass whilst on his knees, and somehow 'knees' the ball away with Sanchez bearing down on him.

40 minutes: Manchester United 1-0 Reading

Both teams have had their chances in this first-half. Reading can't quite find the killer ball in the final third, but their approach play is excellent. United always look dangerous on the break though.

44 minutes: Manchester United 1-0 Reading

Good chance this for Reading...

Pereira is dispossessed on the edge of the United box, but Callum Harriott almost has too much time, and his tame left-foot shot is straight at Romero.
