From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Alvaro Morata scored twice as holders Chelsea eventually saw off Nottingham Forest to advance to the FA Cup fourth round.
The Spaniard, who may yet leave Stamford Bridge this month, was on hand to strike home twice in the second half to save Cesc Fabregas' blushes who missed a first-half penalty on his final appearance in English football.
Here's how it played out:

GOAL! Fleetwood 1-2 AFC Wimbledon (Madden 70')
The hosts are back in it!
74 minutes: Chelsea 2-0 Nottingham Forest
Well he's had his chances, but no hat-trick for Morata today - he's replaced by Cesar Azpelicueta.
GOAL! Fleetwood 2-2 AFC Wimbledon (Evans '72 PEN)
Can you believe it?!
Fleetwood score two goals in as many minutes and we're all square at Highbury!
76 minutes: Chelsea 2-0 Nottingham Forest
Barkley connects with the ball well from 25 yards out, but Steele does well to hold on down low to his right.
GOAL! Accrington Stanley 1-0 Ipswich Town (Kee 76')
An upset on the cards here (and obviously it's Ipswich, in the third round, again...)
GOAL! Aston Villa 0-3 Swansea (Fulton 78')
The Swans are through to the fourth round!
GOAL! Bolton 4-2 Walsall (Magennis 80')
A bullet header - his second of the game!
GOAL! Gillingham 1-0 Cardiff City (List 81')
Incredible! League One Gillingham are ahead against Premier League Cardiff!
