‘It’s not easy to decide the best’: Marco Silva on Fulham’s stunning FA Cup goals

Marco Silva insisted it is “for the fans to decide” which goal was better after two moments of individual brilliance proved the difference in Fulham’s 2-0 win over Leeds which saw them reach the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Manor Solomon continued his excellent run of form since recovering from a knee injury, finding the net for a fourth time in as many matches with a clever curled effort from the left wing.

But it was Joao Palhinha’s stunning strike which broke the deadlock. He won the ball in midfield, drove forward and then unleashed a superb shot from outside the box.

“It’s not easy to decide (which is better),” Silva said after the game. “Two different moments but two great finishes.”

Wondergoals put Fulham into FA Cup last eight after beating wasteful Leeds

Manor Solomon struck for a fourth time in as many matches as Fulham reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Leeds United.

Both goals showcased individual skill, with Solomon’s curled effort second only to a stunning strike from distance to break the deadlock from Joao Palhinha.

Leeds continued to show improvement since Javi Gracia’s appointment but were unable to book a place in the last eight for the first time in 20 years despite having a number of chances, including a slightly controversial disallowed goal.

Fulham, who have exceeded all expectations in the top flight this year, reached the quarter-finals for the first time since 2009-10.

Evan Ferguson is a unique talent, says Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi described Evan Ferguson as “unique” after the teenage forward’s latest goal secured his side a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The Seagulls’ 1-0 win at Stoke saw Ferguson finish from close range on the half-hour mark at the end of a fine move. It was a fifth goal of the season for the 18-year-old Republic of Ireland international and fourth in his last nine appearances.

And De Zerbi said of Ferguson: “He is unique for us in terms of quality, in terms of characteristic. He knows very well the way to score.”

Brighton into FA Cup quarter-finals after Evan Ferguson goal beats Stoke

Brighton advanced into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup as teenage forward Evan Ferguson’s first-half effort secured a 1-0 victory at Stoke.

The Republic of Ireland international, 18, finished a fine move on the half-hour mark to register his fifth goal for the Seagulls.

The Sky Bet Championship hosts went close to equalising after the break through on-loan Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe, before Brighton substitute Danny Welbeck hit the post in stoppage-time as the visitors claimed a last-eight spot for the third time in six seasons.

Ten days on from their last match, the 1-0 Premier League loss to Fulham, boss Roberto De Zerbi made five changes to his starting line-up, with Ferguson one of two 18-year-olds in the side.

Beaten Brendan Rodgers holds his hands up after Leicester crash to Blackburn

Boss Brendan Rodgers took the blame after Leicester crashed out of the FA Cup.

Tyrhys Dolan and Sammie Szmodics capitalised on awful defending to earn Blackburn a 2-1 win as they reached a first FA Cup quarter-final for eight years.

Kelechi Iheanacho grabbed a second-half consolation but the error-prone Foxes got what they deserved against the Championship side.

Rodgers, who guided Leicester to a first FA Cup triumph in 2021, made six changes and insisted he should be the one in the firing line. He said: “If there’s anyone to blame it’s me. I made the changes and sadly it didn’t work.”

Blackburn upset Leicester to join Premier League trio in FA Cup quarter-finals

Blackburn upset Leicester to reach the FA quarter-finals for the first time since 2015 with a 2-1 win at the King Power Stadium.

Tyrhys Dolan and Sammie Szmodics capitalised on dismal defending from the Foxes to upset the 2021 Cup winners as Brendan Rodgers’ 200th Leicester game, four years into his reign, ended in defeat.

Kelechi Iheanacho pulled a goal back but it was not enough to prevent another dispiriting night in a poor season for Leicester.

Pep Guardiola hails ‘flabbergasting’ Phil Foden after FA Cup double

Pep Guardiola praised Phil Foden’s work ethic after the England forward’s double strike helped Manchester City reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Foden scored twice – once in each half – to put the visitors in command against Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City before the fit-again Kevin De Bruyne’s superb late strike sealed a 3-0 victory at Ashton Gate.

The 22-year-old has now scored a dozen times during a campaign in which he has not always been in Guardiola’s starting XI.

“I said last week that we don’t have any doubts about Phil,” said Guardiola. “The impact of Phil since he has arrived has been flabbergasting. He has been awesome, getting better and better.”

Phil Foden scores brace as Man City cruise past Bristol City in FA Cup

Manchester City saw off plucky Bristol City to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 3-0 victory at Ashton Gate.

Phil Foden scored twice and Kevin De Bruyne added late gloss as the six-time FA Cup winners ended Bristol City’s unbeaten 12-game run before a capacity crowd in the west country.

The scoreline was harsh on the hosts, who fell behind to Foden’s seventh-minute strike and remained very much in the contest well into the final quarter.

But Foden’s deflected strike 16 minutes from time and a fine De Bruyne finish ensured the visitors’ place in the last eight.
