Arsenal eased to Europa League victory against Qarabag on Thursday night - but they were far from their best in Baku.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos opened the scoring early on before the visitors had to withstand plenty of pressure until Emile Smith Rowe's first senior goal and a first for club for Matteo Guendouzi secured a 3-0 win which flattered Unai Emery's side.

The Arsenal head coach opted to bring the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette and Granit Xhaka on a near 5,000-mile round-trip despite a tricky visit to Fulham early on Sunday - but they were named on a strong bench at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

A promising start from Davide Zappacosta

Willian's deliveries from corners on the left have looked dangerous, but Chelsea haven't managed to free anyone to get a clear header on one yet.

Huge appeal for a penalty turned down! Ruben Loftus Cheek goes past Stopira and looks to have been felled by Paulo Vinicius. The extra official could not be closer and waves away claims from the Chelsea players, and the referee signals solely for a corner. It looked a penalty.

First show of insecurity from Chelsea. Andreas Christensen lets the ball run and Kepa should come and claim easily, but he is a little slow on the uptake and Loic Nego nips in to half-volley towards goal. Fortunately it is an inaccurate stab and Chelsea survive.

This game has opened up - Gary Cahill looks to have fouled Georgi Milanov just outside the Chelsea area but no free-kick is given.

Chelsea break thusly and earn another corner, which again comes to nothing.

Brilliant from Loic Nego. The Frenchman outmuscles Emerson, cuts back on to his left foot past Andreas Christensen but rather hacks at the ball and it is very easy for Kepa to claim.

A clear booking for Szabolcs Huszti, and Chelsea have a free-kick in a dangerous position right of centre 25 yards out...

Deflected beyond the near post off the wall.

Another corner...

Again Chelsea can't force a chance from the ball in, and the half-time whistle is blown. 16 shots, 9 corners and a big penalty appeal but no goals as of yet for the home side. 0-0.

The second half begins. The same 22 players re-emerge from the tunnel to resume proceedings.

Vidi begin well. The ball breaks to that man Loic Nego again and his left-footed half-volley is powerfully struck.

Kepa moves well to his right to parry the ball away from a comfortable height. A bright start to the second period from the Hungarian side.
