From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

83 min: Trippier is shown the yellow for tripping (no pun intended) Benjamin Mendy down on the left touchline. The Monaco man had knocked the ball ahead of him in a bid to break free of the defender but was brought down by the frustrated right-back.
86 min: Eriksen floats in a threatening delivery to the far right-hand post. Alli loses his marker and throws himself at the ball in a desperate attempt to make some form of connection. It's not to be. The ball bounces wildly off one body part or another to roll out for a goal kick and the midfielder is left in a heap at the back post ruing his missed chance.
89 min - substitution: Andrea Raggi replaces the captain, Radamel Falcao. The Colombian has enjoyed plenty of half-chances but hasn't posed a similar threat as others. A mixed night for him but he won't mind too much; there's only a handful of minutes left on the clock and his team are on the verge of qualification.
90+2 min: Two minutes left on the clock and Monaco are nearly there. They just need to survive this late Tottenham free-kick on the edge of their box...
90+3 min: Eriksen delivers from the right but he can't beat the first defender as Mendy heads the delivery over the bar for a corner. Another chance...
90+4 min: Alas, Tottenham fail to make anything of it and the corner is cleared.
FULL TIME: Monaco 2-1 Tottenham
And that's that. Spurs are out of the Champions League after succumbing to defeat here at the Stade Louis II. A deserved victory for the home side, but a disappointment nonetheless for the visitors. There's no denying it though, Tottenham were well below their best.
Were it not for the world-class heroics of their keeper, the scoreline could have been triple what it was. Spurs were overpowered and looked a shadow of the team that dominated some many sides last season. Their defence left plenty to be desired while the front line repeatedly squandered their chances.
