Maurizio Sarri, a Naples native who gave up his job in banking to pursue a career in management, has guided the Partenopei to the summit of Serie A this season with eight wins from eight.
With a front three of Dries Mertens, Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon, the Italians will fancy their chances of scoring against any side in world football.
Follow the action below:
But it may well be going the other way that they will be concerned about tonight.
City have been in sensational form so far this season, scoring 29 goals in their own eight league matches and boast an embarrassment of attacking riches - even without the injured Sergio Aguero.
Buckle your seatbelt, this could be one hell of a 90 minutes.
Here’s everything you need to know about the game:
What time does it start?
The match kicks of at 7.45pm at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday 17 October.
Where can I watch it?
BT Sport 3 and BT Sport 4K UHD will be broadcasting the game.
It’s a big game for…
Gabriel Jesus. Fresh from being described as the most talented youngster in world football since Lionel Messi (by Danny Murphy...), the Brazilian is in line to start his first Champions League game as the sole centre-forward for City. In his two previous appearances he has had the experience and quality of Sergio Aguero to rely upon. Can he do it on his own?
Player to watch…
Dries Mertens. The Dutchman started life at Napoli as a winger, but a striker crisis 12 months ago prompted Sarri to transform him into a centre-forward. Thirty-eight goals later and it’s starting to look like something of a stroke of genius. John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi had better be on their toes.

Pochettino: We need to prove we can kick it with the best
Spurs are level on points with Real Madrid after two matches in Group H and manager Mauricio Pochettino sees tonight's fixture as the perfect chance for his players to prove they belong in the big time.
"It is a big opportunity for us to show that we can compete at this level," he said earlier this week.
"It is so special to play here in the Champions League. It is a great opportunity for us all and we are so excited."
Zidane: Spurs aren't a one-man team
Harry Kane has been Tottenham's and England's star man so far this term but Zinedine Zidane, the Real Madrid manager, doesn't believe merely dealing with the in-form striker will ensure an easy night for his players.
With the likes of Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld also in the Spurs side, Zidane knows Mauricio Pochettino's men have the capacity to be dangerous in all areas of the pitch.
"Both teams have the same points," Zidane said earlier this week. "Tottenham are not just about Kane and we're going to prepare for this game well."
Ferdinand: Madrid test a great audition for Kane
Rio Ferdinand reckons tonight will provide Spurs hitman Harry Kane with the perfect chance to prove he is capable of playing for a club the size and stature of Real Madrid in future.
"This is a great audition for someone like Harry Kane," Ferdinand said on BT Sport a few moments ago.
"If he's ever thinking about leaving Spurs, where he's the golden boy, this is the kind of game he wants to play in and produce his best football and show he can be put in the top tier."
