Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

But here's official confirmation from Manchester City regarding the abandonment. No news yet as to when the rematch will be scheduled for:

For one night and one night only, Man City's stadium has been renamed the "Wetihad"...to clarify, I definitely didn't come up with that.

1 min: And they're off! The Champions League is underway folks!

Samuel Lovett13 September 2016 19:47

1 min: GOAL! PSG score! Edison Cavani puts PSG ahead in the opening 30 seconds - what a start for the French side. With a neat first touch, Di Maria brought down a high ball in the middle before threading through Verratti down the right. Under pressure from Monreal, the winger whipped the ball across the face of the goal and into a very dangerous area. Ospina was left in no man's land as Cavani lost his marker to guide the ball into the far-left bottom corner with a cracking header. What a start.

12 min: Corner for PSG. It's whipped in from Di Maria on the right but he completely bypasses his team mates in the box and ends up directing the cross towards the goal itself. Opsina quickly scrambles backwards as the delivery curls towards the top left-corner to tip the ball over the bar and force another corner.

15 min: Arsenal's turn for a corner now. Cazorla curls it in from the right and Mustafi challenges to meet it...but he just can't quite make a clean enough connection. The ball glances off his head and runs away from the box.

32 min: Arsenal were building play well through the centre of the park until it reached Oxlade-Chamberlain. He was looking to find Ozil ahead of him with a simple 10-yard pass but he completely under-cooked it, thereby allowing Krychowiak to dart in and steal possession.
